Can an 04 do it?
 

I have an 04 8 and i have been wondering if it is in any way a bigger job to put an 09 rx8 engine into my 04? Any help appreciated.

It's a huge job.

So what would be best option to get away from the s1 engine. Cause i love my 8 and i know ill never have a chance to get another.

Get a different car?

If you wanna keep it and the engine is healthy, upgrade ignition, if you don't have emissions testing/lose the catalytic converter, and if you do that get a SOHN adapter and run 2-stroke oil and premix(there is a little debate about that) and use a higher grade oil(again debatable, but most believe 5W-20 just doesn't cut it).

Proper maintenance on the engine will keep it alive for a very long time.

Soan adapt is a lil pricy so i have been looking into disconnecting it and mixing gas (which i do already just not to heavy). Is that good plan or just keep doing what im doing. Also what motor oil do you suggest?

I would say that is a bad idea, the injectors put oil right where it needs to be, on the seals. Back in the day of Star Mazda(no idea what championship is called now or who makes the Renesis for it), racing teams could buy block-off plates for the oil injectors, but that was specifically for an engine that only saw racing conditions and I suspect teams that went that route premixed heavily or rebuilt/replaced the engine often.

Again, if you are premixing, eliminate the catalytic converter as it will fail quickly from "processing" oil.

Really, upgrading the ignition system, and just changing the oil frequently will do wonders. I specifically run 5W-30 conventional(also referred to as "dino"), but many would say even that is too thin.

The ignition is getting done. I am waiting for my upgrade kit to show up from bennet built. And my cat is empty lol

Also get an '07 or newer starter. The 1.4kw starter was upped to a 2kw starter by Mazda to help is spin faster when being started. Helps prevent flooding which in-turn helps save the cat.

Just did that this week. I got the n3 z1. Now just wait for coil kit😡
