I am just past the 8 year warranty and don't want to have a broken pedal in the middle of the freeway.

Having the same issue, was driving out on Saturday evening, when suddenly I try to shift gear, the clutch pedal *snap sound*.. The symptoms is the same as you're describing it. The firmness is gone, and it feels a hell lot different than what I had been driving. I tried to find for any breakage, but without a real touchlight, I couldn't locate any real dmg. Additionally, when I press on the clutch pedal, it moves towards the brake pedal. So, both my shoes were grinding on the sides. I brought it back to the dealership this A.M. and I'm awaiting for them to check on it.

From personal experience my clutch pedal made the same noise, it first made a huge pop noise. I became very confused... The next day it made the same pop noise, but this time, my clutch pedal got stuck to the floor, as if my pedal was pushed in. Me being dumb, i pulled it back up, and caused it to blow up my slave cylinder. (don't pull it back up) [= anyways, If your clutch pedal wiggles, If you can move it left to right about and inch, you have a crack in your clutch pedal. If your pedal becomes closer to your brake pedal, then yes, your clutch pedal is broken and needs to be replaced. I've purchased the reinforcement and have been pleased with it. Just buy an OEM clutch, and this reinforcement and you can stomp on that pedal all day, and it won't break at all. Installing the reinforcement is a bit annoying on some bolts. Had to torque a metal lip to make the car start, but completely worth it. [= Good luck!

I removed the clutch pedal. I welded back what needed to be welded. I installed the reinforcement bracket. I just can't get this pedal back on. The metal rod with the two screw ins keeps going back in so I can't screw in the pedal. How did you guys manage to do it?

FastFreddy61 03-31-2012 12:50 PM

Gambet, I think you're referring to the clutch master cylinder ? If so ,have a mate hold it in place while you fit the clutch pedal bracket.

<ARRXATE> 04-19-2012 05:53 AM

Honestly that damn thing took me quite a few hours just to get the pedal back on, just keep jiggling it, the tight space doesn't help either. Takes some patience and trying over and over, i think i hit it a few times with a screwdriver to help put it on haha. Works great! Hopefully you've got it back on already!

nycgps 04-19-2012 07:13 AM

i dont know how u guys NOT be able this back within 15 mins ... i did mine mad times and i got it fast every time ...

xgambetx 04-20-2012 03:32 AM

It took me well over 4 hours trying to get the damn pedal back on. The supplied reinforcement bracket holes were not big enough and before I had to make the holes larger, the master clutch cylinder would go right back out not letting me tighten the pedal into place

Same haha, was a pain, did you have to bend a part to make your car start? so it would hit the sensor?

Yes Haha I was sooo sad when I got it all on and the car wouldn't start so i took a break and came back and saw the provblem but.the thing was in the correct position, it just wasnt hitting all the way so i took out the small piece and put a plastic in between and taped it up. Works fine for the mean time :D

All you have to do is pull it out harder. It's serrated and feel as though you'd snap the stud but it will give and sometimes it may completely come out...

hopped over here from the post in rotaryfx .. there's no activity on that side .. https://www.rx8club.com/rotaryfx-com...4/#post4311833

ordered the complete kit

Race Roots 07-23-2012 12:21 PM

You ordered from them or us?

SuaSponte 07-26-2012 11:49 AM

Doing about 55 on the highway, I press the clutch and pop..... clutch is on the floor..... Looks like I'll be ordering pretty soon.

HiFlite999 07-26-2012 11:59 AM

I would not use this kit to fix a completely broken bracket. Go to the dealer and get a new one under the recall, then install the kit (or have the backet welded as described in other threads).

SuaSponte 07-26-2012 02:36 PM

I'm out of warranty. I'm at 110k miles, and it's an 04. I called Mazda and they said it isn't covered anymore.....

Side note - Can I install 2009 clutch pedal assembly to my 04? A friend has one he is willing to give me, but neither of us know if it is interchangeable.

I'd still purchase a new one anyway. Starting from a new one means everything lines up and is easier to install the bracket.

Do the Series 2's have this issue?

ALXVA8 12-07-2012 08:03 AM

Brice,

Thanks for the good service. I ordered the complete clutch bracket assembly. I installed it this week and right away the feel is fantastic. I didn't realize how loose my pedal had become. I the recent past I used to wonder why I was not able to engage the clutch smoothly. Well it seems that there was so much flexing going on that the engagement point was not predictable.

Question: I remember when this car was first released that some spoke of firewall flex when depressing the clutch. AutoExe also offered a part that helped to reinforce and minimize this flexing. Do you or anyone know about this? I can no longer find that product. Does anyone else offer a product like this? Hopefully I explained this correctly.

Thanks.

SilverEIGHT 12-07-2012 05:50 PM

Yea, pick up a Mazdaspeed Front Strut bar. It has the support that presses against the master cylinder and eliminates the flex. I had a hard time finding one but you can still get them. Let me know if you can't locate one and I'll see if I can dig up my paperwork and let you know who it was I ordered from.
