What is invoice?

How do you find out what invoice is?

*I'm new to car buying, always had help from family before when going to make purchases*

here go to this website, then click on the "tmv price" link nextto the model you are looking at to figure out invoice.

http://www.edmunds.com/new/2005/mazda/rx8/index.html

you can price it with all the options you want and it will show invoice of the options too.

MSRP = manufacturer's suggested retail price
- the price that the manufacturer lists as the "price" of the car

Invoice = the "cost" of the car to the dealer
- this is not the total actual price to the dealer as there are things like holdback and other incentives that the manufacturer pays the dealer when the car is sold
- there is no official source of this information for the public and so what you find on the web is guesses and estimates - usually pretty good but not 100% accurate

The site that was first given will give you some idea as to what the difference is between MSRP and invoice but note that it is for the US market. There will, of course, be the difference between US dollars and Canadian dollars but also there will be other differences in the costs and prices between the markets. You will need to find a source of Canadian invoice pricing

it was good info though Tigster, thanks

thanks Hyper

its just that i see people saying they paid 'below invoice' so i was curious as to how they got this info and how they were able to pay less than what the dealer paid for the car

Go to www.carbuyingtips.com to find out about factory holdbacks and everything else. Just disregard the extremely pessimistic attitude and horrible website design.
