check out www.edmunds.com

Select the RX8 under "new cars"

You can select 'price with options'. That will give you the dealer's invoice for your car.

I would aim for getting invoice on it.

Hope this helps...

Thank you, I just did it and it got me to around $32k.

cLLcLe 06-15-2005 07:15 AM

You can also just say that "so and so dealership offered 200$ over invoice... can you do better?"

That's how I got my car at invoice. :)

chrism 06-15-2005 07:32 AM

or say below invoice and thats how i got my car....if they got them im sure they will dump them off

LostAngel 06-15-2005 08:30 AM

I know that i'm gonna haggle them down to the lowest (hopefully a bit below invoice)...then throw in at the end that I got a Ford Corp. Discount that gives a discount off the lowest price I get. :)

xdrian 06-15-2005 08:39 AM

they are really rare these days. My dealership only has 2 so they might hit you a lil over invoice, unless you want your car located in another state and wait a week or more.

The SPLAN (Ford discount) gets you below invoice, Its a set price and you can get any lower that that. Bottom line. you wont haggle them for it .

LostAngel 06-15-2005 09:05 AM

I think it's a different discount? A guy my dad works with got the dealer to go down to invoice...then gave the dealer the Discount Auth Code...he went to the website and entered it...and got a $6,000 discount of of his Crown Victoria. So, not only did he get him down to invoice..but also got a $6,000 discount via the ford discount. This discount also counts towards ford companies as you know..mazda...lincoln...aston marton..etc etc..

I'm going today to haggle & see what I can see. They have over a dozen in stock. Wish me luck! I have only been waiting since 1999 when the evolv first showed up.

LostAngel 06-15-2005 11:33 AM

Lucky...our local mazda dealer (45 minutes away) has a grand total of....NONE in...and when they do have one in its exactly that many...one. Good luck with the purchase, and take the above posters advice. goto www.edmunds.com and 'build' your RX-8 with all the options you want, and take it to the dealer and tell him you want the invoice price.

I just meant our local dealer has NO rx-8's of any kind in..the most i've saw on his lot was 1.

Jesus. That's certainly not normal.

According to MazdaUSA there are 222 RX-8s on dealer lots within a 25-mile radius of my home. 107 of those are 6-Speeds.

Don't be surprised if one like the one you made is difficult to get. Out of the 222 near me, not a single one is equipped like the one you built. There is one similar without the Navigation though. Ones loaded up like that you've got to be VERY lucky to find near you, be willing to ship it from a ways away, be willing to let your service department install the Navigation system for you, or you've got to custom order from the Factory.

I didn't think the service dept could install the nav system? That's what i've heard anyways...ya..it's amazing how few of the 'hot cars' local dealers have...local nissan dealer = 1 350z if im lucky...local mazda = 1 rx8 if im lucky...

Navigation is not a dealer option. One of the members here bought all the nav parts from a wrecked 8 and spent weeks installing it. Pretty much requires that every interior component including the entire dash to be removed. Not bad for a DIY but not something that you want a dealer to take on. BTW, he spent over $3k on parts for a $2k factory option.

The other stuff you want (appearance, rotary accents, spoiler, cd changer) are dealer options or easy DIYs.

Find a GT with nav from the factory. The rest of the stuff is all add-ons. You can find nicer appearance pieces in the aftermarket. Check the vendors on this site. Rosenthal sells all the Mazda parts at discount.

You must live in a part of the country with bad roads and bad weather. Mazda dealer I go to never has less than 50 on the lot.

Also, you can't go by the Mazda inventory system. The dealers or the webmaster don't keep it very up to date. Call the web sales manager at the dealer you want to buy from and get the facts.

Thats what I was thinking about doing...right now all I really want is a GT with Nav. The other options were just thing's i'd like..but your right...I can get it down the road.

Go to carpoint.msn.com, check the invoice price. Look long enough and you can find a dealer that will sell it to you at invoice +$300. It took me 3 weeks to find one, and they were a state over. I had a 500 mile drive to get it, but I saved $4K on the car. (http://freewaymazda.com). Note: Some high volume dealers can _finance_ a car with $2K in rebates. They did - I bought mine $1.7k under invoice.
