St. Louis Area Pricing

Been looking for a RX-8, and have tried to deal on a '04. The best offers I'm getting is either invoice or invoice +$100 (that's excluding the one dealer who inflated the sticker price and tried the "what would it take to get you into this car" bs). These are before the $1,500 Mazda rebate.

Anyway, to my way of thinking, the '04, although a new car is last year's vehicle, and should have a year's worth of depriciation. Am I off base?

One dealer - appears very honest - faxed me a copy of the invoice, dated in Dec. 04. so that car is approaching 1 year old - now he's got to pay floorplan, etc.

What's the take?

Hell yeah,

these STL dealers are full of crap. I am refusing to ever deal with John Bommarito ever again btw. I have been having a hell of a time achieving the types of deals other members have been getting.

So, I am in the same boat as you. I have been attempting to lease an RX8 for a month or so, back when the 3500 rebates were still in effect. Long story short, I was only trying to get a similar deal to what other forum members have been getting in other areas, mid 300's per month (lease) for a sports package 6sp. You and I should definitely compare notes on these dealers. I am willing to do that publicly over the forum or through email. I don't know how to use the private messages though.

Currently, I have learned that 3500 lease rebates have been put back into effect which means I am back in the saddle trying to lease a car. Heck, perhaps you and I could joing forces, make us both an excellent deal and you get rid of two RX8's! :D

I got a silver 2004 with nav / spoiler / 6MT / Touring / Tinted Windows for 27.4K a couple of months ago. My experience was horrible - all the standard "used car sales" tricks... but I was happy with the price.

I think Sticker was 33K or so...

And Invoice was 29.5K or so. (This was before any rebate program was offered direct to consumers- although I think that the dealer had 1k holdback - which still means that I got it for 1k under their price)

The dealer swore that he was losing money on the deal - and that he misquoted the price - but he held to it.

For 2004s now - especially (with 2005s out) - you should be getting these things cheap.

04 models SHOULD be going down in price for the reasons mentioned above regarding floor plan cost and the fact it is an older model (still new, just older) I personally would not deal Bommarito either DaveG. A friend of mine's father was a dealer and said to "count four fingers and toes beofre you leave there" when I was looking at a protege.

Good luck in finding a good deal, and please let me know which one it ends up being. I have an opinion of who I'd deal with, due to previous dealings and decent service. (Fleet pricing of ~$600 under invoice, same price on ordered OR inventory, smooth sale)

Update: I am leasing from Ron Blount Northgate. So far they seem to have been by far the most honest and willing to deal for real. I'm working with Al Blount (salesman) and Mike Rich (Sales manager) I will pick up my Nordic green Sports pack 6sp tomorrow night if all goes well. :)
