RX 8 R3 Rim Warranty Advice

Hey I just bought an RX 8 R3 and the dealer offered this rim warranty saying that if I hit a pothole the rim could easily be damaged or bent and that for 895 dollars I get a free tire and free rim for five years if I hit a pothole. Do the rims really bend that easily, and if they do is it worth getting the warranty?

how many times in those 5 years can you get a new tire and rim? I have hit plenty of potholes ... mine are still holding up ... albeit they are not R3 wheels .... I am not sure it is worth it

as far as i know its as many times as it happens in those five years. He said its an issue with the r3 rims specifically but i dunno know, that just seems skeptical

This past Winter, I bent three rims within a ninety day period... Not and R3 but expensive anyway! Bad roads in SW Ohio!

New Jersey roads aren't to bad, i've yet to bend any rims so i'm hoping that'll hold true with these

I've heard that they are $1200 brand new ... so if you plan on bending one in the next 5 years ... its worth it ... personally, I don't think I would get it though ... I can avoid most huge potholes, but it is up to you

i would read the fine print. a bent wheel even if extreme doesn't make the wheel unusable. be sure they don't specify that the wheel needs to be totally destroyed to fall under the replacement warranty. if the wheel is bent, they might just say live with it. the wheel is still usable. not to mention, there is a local wheel shop to me that charges 149 to fix an inside bead bend and 199 to weld a crack if needed. both of which don't require paint. what you're looking at is a good deal if its a total wheel replacement but if they are just sending them out to be repaired it doesn't add up. you would have to bend your wheels 6 times just for it to pay for itself. id bet you are a more care-full driver than that. not to mention i bet they charge you for remounting and balancing when fixed or probably even if they replace it. dealers are schisty like that.

one more thing. if the tires are beat at the time of replacement they will probably give you a "pro-rated" price because the tire "needed replacing anyway" and you end up paying for half of the tire any way. just my personal experience working for 10 years now in the tire business.

+1 on what godesshunter said.

Never heard of a rim warranty. Anyway, even if i were offered to get it, i will deny it. In my years of driving, i never had a bent wheel ever. So, its really up to you, and if you know about road conditions in your area (too many potholes and such).

yeah i don't think i'm gunna get get it just doesn't seem worth it
