is the rx-8 considered sedan??
insurance wise, is the rx-8 considered a sedan?? since it has 4 doors?
btw i live in cali..if theres any difference.. |
I consider it a sexified sedan
|
It used to be considered a coupe, but now (insurance wise) its in the same class as a Mustang.
At least that is what Progressive explained to me. We saw our insurance go up because of this change. |
my insurance considered it a sedan when the adjuster came to check out the car way back in 04. never noticed an increase after that
|
depends on insurance company
Allstate considers it a coupe (so does progressive apparently in some states) Safeco considers it a sedan |
I just went ahead and told 21st/Farmers that it was a sedan...to get a better rate. They didn't question it.

yup, 21st for sent an adjuster to me, was about to mark it as a coupe at first glance then opened the rear doors and then marked it as a sedan

My company GEICO list it as a four door sedan.
To most people it's just a coup or 2 + 2 GT. It's kinda like when people call hatchbacks 3 doors or 5 doors but my 2 cents is if the rear "doors" cannot function independently then it's not a true four door. But in the case of the 8 be it 2, 4 or 101, I still like it. |
USAA classifies it as a 4-door sedan with a 1.3L engine, which keeps the insurance costs remarkably low for what the '8 truly is. They can call it whatever they like as long as it saves me $'s. :)

Thanks for the info :) |
Whoops, sorry, just checked my USAA acct. online and it is listed as a "coupe." Still a relatively low price however.

Yeah USAA 4 door coupe, but still really low. only $35 increase per year over my Protege5, higher repair costs increase, mostly offset by higher safety marks.
Rhode Island registers it as a 1.3L 1 cylinder 4 door sedan. (Cylinder box is a mandatory field apparently :) ) My 'usage' tax is nearly half of my wife's Mazda5. |
Ok Huey.. man, I was about to call USAA and see if I could get a better rate :)
|
pretty much i think its called a 4 door coupe but same difference
|
New Jersey calls it a 2-door because the rear doors do not function independently from the front doors. When I had my car inspected before I bought it used, the service manager put "Mazda-certified 4-door family sedan" on the inspection report but it didn't fool my wife or my insurance company.
