Recent RX8 Prices on Bring A Trailer auctions
I think we may have seen the bottom of the RX8 market.
The BAT auction prices appear to have stabilized after the pandemic used car frenzy. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...8d041b5d24.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...5f88601b15.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...846defed4e.jpg |
What's a reasonable price?

well so I found a 2004 rx8 manual on marketplace. 77k miles, oil change evry 2.5k, has cel because slight vac leak that "never really affects anything" the clutch judders slightly when shifting/starting when I testdrive it, and had a accident that damaged the front subframe and repaired. Some dents in front. Ran on premix since 70k miles. Coolant never replaced(had coolant light on before), started motor upgraded. Interior sunshade broken and the radio monitor broken. Everything else stock The listing is 6.8k$. Have invidia cayback and orginal exhaust.. What's a reasonable price for the car?
Besides the front end damage, the other issues point to owner negligence. RX8s have lots of common problems that are easily fixable. Some of these point to a negligent, cheap. or lazy owner. A vac leak is easily fixed. If it never really did anything it wouldn't throw a code. Coolant never replaced is definitely negligent. Radio broken. Super easy $50 sunshade fix neglected. Biggest warning sign is the starter. Owners usually swap out the starter when they begin having hot start issues due to bad compression. BandAid on a bullet wound. Find yourself an 8 with a rotary specific compression test. |
2 days left on this nice 8 on BAT.
$6100, expect it to go higher. It's on my watch list, and I already have a LY GT. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2004-mazda-rx-8-69/ |
Isn't it weak starter peoblem?

I'm new here and thanks for ur help! |
20 minutes to start hot at the gas station is a red flag. When I bought my RX8 I paid a few owners to have the test performed and they scheduled it. I walked away from 2 cars. Hard to give yourself space to walk away during the car hunt. Especially right after a test drive.

I heard the 04 rx8 has weaker starter problem which causes bad hotstart(owner said he tried to start the car for 20min in gas station before starter swap). Is it still a red flag?

I have noticed this trend as well. I purchased my r3 there about a year ago. It was hard to find a clean r3 anywhere else.

Here we go. 6 hours left. It will go up to $8000 for sure. I'm prepared to go to $9k. |

$9800.
The car is worth it, imo, but a $400 BAT fee and $1400 transit fee to my home is too steep for me. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...81bda4ac7a.jpg |
why don’t you just post the weblink instead of a teaser picture? :squint:

Well, looking at the historic sales price data on that page you listed, it looks like there's a distinct downward trend for the last year and a half or so. My guess is that we're not at the bottom of the market yet, although BaT only represents a small fraction of sales, and typically only of ones that are stock or near-stock in very good condition (cosmetically anyway), so it is far from a complete picture if you're looking for functional-but-scrappy or "I know this'll need a rebuild soon..." type buys.

I think the seller is leaving money on the table by listing this with no tests. He doesnt seem to agree. I hope he does well either way.

It's weird, even with a screenshot on my Android phone, it converts the pic to a link. I can't see the pic unless I click on the link. (?) https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2009-mazda-rx8-r3/ |
This R3 didn't meet the reserve, bidding ended at $10,250.

Should have listened and gotten a compression test.

They likely know it's failing and are hoping someone ignorant about RX8s might take the bait. |

Spend $7,500 on yours to make more purdy. That leaves you $1,500 for a road trip. Stop look at the greener grass dude. Go to SevenStock with the money I just saved you. I’m assuming the final price to be $9,000.
Take off, eh |
