Might Buy One

At my brothers dealership, they have a 2004 RX-8 with 63,000 miles. I spoke with the guy who owned it and he said it was never raced at all and was used for only commuting on the highways. I can get it from the dealership for $16,000. It has Racing Heart wheels, upgraded suspension, the tires wear even and has the grand touring package.

Is this worth it?

You did say this was your brothers dealership Drew? How much do you trust your brother?

Kelly Blue Book shows just below 16k as a trade in value if it is completely loaded and in excellent condition. Maybe your brother gave the previous owner too much for it on trade. All in all not a bad deal though if 16k is your purchasing limit. The down side is NO WARRANTY!

Thanks for your reply.

I currently own a 1998 honda prelude with 98,000 miles. It is in flawless condition it's just getting old.

My brother is the service manager for the dealership, and one top rated ones in all of southern california. They'll just give it to me for what they paid for it. The car is in immaculate condition. It's the 6speed and just totally fully loaded.

What typically goes wrong with these cars? I realize it's high mileage.

My brother is going to have his techs do a full inspection on it. I trust my brother with my life. He's the one that sold me my prelude and it has never had a problem with it at all.

If there is a single problem with it I obviously won't buy it.

Read on Drew, tons of info on this forum. If you want more opinions try RX8web.com. Some great responces there too.

If the previous owner was as particular as he says, you should be in great shape. The rotaries just need to be checked for oil levels more often than other cars. They will burn slight amounts of oil in between changes. The car is a dream to drive if you haven't already. Nothing sounds sweeter than those rotary screems as you rev her to 9000 rpms!!!
