I expect some even more "crazy" deals coming next month.

Im looking at a 08 RX8 (I still dont like the R3's look), lets see what kind of deal they have next month if its good, I am going to trade mine in for that. :)

Go R3 dude. The AutoExe front bumper will fix the appearance and some AutoExe lowering springs. If you have to buy new, don't pass up the improvements to the engine. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah those incentives aren't that great. The 09s are going for 5k off near me. Even bimmers are being discounted. A 528i you can get for .9% on a 60 month finance.

But the fact is, you can get a killer deal on almost any car out there, used or new. I found a porsche boxster 08 with only 110 miles on it msrp 53 going for 39 (that is on the window without even getting to the negotiating part). Most Cars that cost 40-100k depreciate pretty terribly these days.

We've had my wife's SUV paid off since late last year. We were looking at CX-9's for $8K off, until I checked one of the CX-9 forums, and they were all getting $10,000 off.

I'll wait for the re-styled CX-9's that look like the new CX-7's.

Even though there are some decent deals out there it seems like everyone keeps holding out for an even better deal rather than buying now. Dealerships are really backed into a corner right now. A lot of buyers vs dealers are pretty much locked in a stalemate...therefore no sales are happening. I pissed off one dealer by telling them straight out they are going to have to sell R3s for 5-6k off MSRP to get rid of them...and thats only right now and the market is saying this is nowhere near a 32k car. As time passes and the economy still sucks its going to be more than that but the guy I was talking to wasn't having any of that.

As time passes and the economy still sucks its going to be more than that...........

You are wrong.

Lots are full NOW, all the ports are full NOW, they have disused airfields holding unsold cars, NOW!

They have already cut production and there will more cuts, but if you pass up these prices, that dealership will be under, and maybe GM & Chrysler too, but the deals will be gone.

If you think they'll just keep churning out cars to sell below cost, you are deluded........

I think it actually depends on what happens to the big American car companies. If entire brands start to go under like Saab, then you will see discount heaven.

I don't think so, Stealth. I think it's based on perception, and consumers are keeping every penny right now. With all the excess inventory, it costs the auto industry more to keep it than sell it at a large discount. Pricing is being adjusted across the board, and the problem was that many suppliers were jacking up their prices artificially with the excuse that OIL was so expensive...speculation. It was all bullshit. Now the suppliers will have to drop their prices, making the finished goods pricing more competitive. In the end, everything isnt going to cost as much. A layer of BS is being stripped away.

I understand what you are saying about production cuts, but even as more and more cuts are being made and there is an abundance of unused cars sitting around people are STILL NOT BUYING! I think people's personal finances now have to be taken into consideration too. From now on credit will not be as easy to get and I think people have finally been scared into getting themselves out of debt. There will be no more buying escalades when all you can really afford is a civic. And IMO most average middle class families cannot afford a 30k car...therefore the market is currently dictating that this stuff is overpriced. It will continue to be brutal for all car manufacturers until supply and demand are more or less even. I've been saying all along that the auto industry is way too big. Id say production could be almost cut in half and then things might get closer to even, but the gov't does not want to allow any of these companies to go away because of the job loses so they are subsidising them to continue to make too much of what people are already are not buying. Its going to take a lot of time for all of this to straighten itself out.

Purevil 03-15-2009 02:24 AM

I've been getting quotes for an 09 touring, and so far they are all giving me BS about the RX8 being a limited production vehicle. I'll just let the ones they have on lot sit and when they don't sell they'll start to sweat. I told the sales manager I will not spend more than 26k. He tried to sell me a sport. I don't think he understands what I'm saying to him...:banghead: F!#%IN FL CAR DEALERS AND THEIR REDICULOUS DEALER MARK-UPS!

Haahaaa good one "Limited" as in they stopped making more 'cause they don't sell.

The auto industry is experiencing car glut indigestion. People were, for years and years, buying new cars like cell phones, on a whim, and trading just cause they liked something new better. Buyers were deluding themselves this "buying for style" was doable and even sensible.

Now it's morning, wake up time, cold water in the pocketbook time. Cars easily last 10 yrs/100K miles of use when taken care off.

The "death rate" of newer cars has been far smaller than the "buy rate" causing bent-up market imbalance (shown as cheap used-acr prices until lately). We don't figgin need all these cars produced everywhere in the world! Difference is now people are waking up to the cold reality of no-money and THAT is showing them the true path of longer term car ownership.

Buy something - use it til it doesn't work good. will be the new mantra. Auto sales at 8-9M a year will be uber difficult on the (remaining) manufacturers, but it's here right now.

Dealers will disappear, brands will die, manufacturers will go banckrupt, and in the transition period, dealers will be required to sell inventory below (someones) cost to recover cash. You can't buy food and pay bills with an unsold car on a lot.

Same thing for the R3. I flat out told a salesman id be back at the end of the year when they are all still sitting there unsold. I dont think he like that too much. There are no secrets anymore about the rotary. Eveyone knows the car is underpowered/undertorqued and sucks gas like an SUV (sometimes worse). Also, the stigma is still out there that rotaries blow up after 10k miles. You would be surprised how many people have asked me about that. So an average person who might be shopping across many brands will likely pass this one up. If this was a 25-27k car...maybe, but at 30K people are going to pass.

rotoryfreak 03-15-2009 08:40 AM

Well I bit the bullet and will be acquiring a r3 blue mica at the end off the month...

Will see how much accessories i can get from the sales man before kick the cash out for it lol..:eyetwitch

I think we are very very close to a market shift in which a large percentage, if not a majority, of cars built are ordered by customers as needed. The days of maintaining huge inventory levels are going to disappear. I think this will drive the cost per car up on average, due to lower sales volume, but I think it will be for the better in the end.

Huey52 03-15-2009 09:33 AM

LOL Ain't that the truth. Must resist myself! Resistance is Not futile. ;)

Had a nice country drive this morning and I'm again content to "love the one I'm with."

I think that would be a pretty good model for car buying. Actually, Id say you could almost get to the point of eliminating dealerships as we know them completely and just keep service departments. You might have a few people there to order the car for you and to handle the sales of the used/traded in vehicles. with shoppers ability to do research/costing online they know more about the car they want than 99% of the salesman anyway, so its gotten to the point where salesman are pretty much useless anyway. Why not eliminate the middle man?

The way carmax handles things seems to be the first sign that the business model for buying cars is changing.

There are still "tons" of "stupid" enough customers out there willing to pay stickers sometimes even above it, so oh yeah, salesman are still "necessarily." :)

especially some people still believes that "R3 is limited edition!"

shazy 03-15-2009 07:58 PM

I really don't think these sales are all that good, just look at the economy man, it's TERRIBLE! Well atleast for the U.S, over in Canada the impact isn't nearly as bad, eh! But one thing I don't get is why do some customers buy something that they have NO IDEA about it. I admit we all by stuff randomly, but when something is like 30k, wouldn't you expect someone to be educated on their purchase?

The only thing I want out of the 09 versions is the interior, which do look better and want the tach that has the BMW style limiter thing...

Lol so true, but my family never really bought a brand NEW car, other than the cavalier... Initially we were supposed to get the LS version that had the 2,2litre version with 140hp and fully equipped...In the end they scammed us and gave us the 115hp and no power windows. But we got a sunroof insteadhttps://www.rx8club.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
