Just purchased 2005 RX8.....good deal?
 

I just bought a 2005 RX8. Black with two-tone leather. Six-speed, nav, sunroof, rear spoiler and 34k. I would rate the condition excellent. One-owner. I paid $14,700. Is this about right? I have read a lot about these cars so I am aware of the standard idiosyncrasies. One more question-Is the extended warranty to 100k legit? If so, does it transfer? Thanks!

The engine core i believe is covered for 8yr 100k and i believe there is a sticky or two about that if your interested. 14700 is prob close to what 05's are going for these days, prob a bit higher then what i have seen occasionally but not bad.

Congrats on the purchase! For an '05 that's loaded up with low mileage that's not a bad deal at all if you ask me. RX-8's in great shape aren't all that common in Kansas IMO so when they do come along dealerships will tend to be pretty confident in their asking price.

The 100,000 mile warranty on the engine is a factory warranty through Mazda so there is no transfer needed. That said it ONLY covers the engine itself (and nothing else) and Mazda is pretty strict on it. Should you have an engine failure they will check the service history of the car to make sure it's up to date and require oil change documentation on the car as far back as you possibly can. If you don't have it, chances are you're SOL. I'd check with your local Mazda dealership to see what the service history is like on the car and whether it has a new engine or not. It's a bit late to mention this, but it's the first thing I suggest ANYONE do when looking at an RX-8 to buy. Chances are an RX-8 with a nicely documented service history will keep your headaches to a minimum.
