Just ordered my RX-8

Hi all new to the board I just ordered mine and it should be here in mid-August.

I'm in Phoenix, AZ

I got the Grand Touring in Black MT.

Red Devil 07-17-2003 01:14 PM

Congrats...I haven't ordered one, so I'm not sure, but that seems really soon to get the car. Are they building it in Japan, or is it coming from another dealer?

On a related subject, does anyone know if there is a deadline for ordering the car from the factory, or is Mazda going to allow orders at any time?

Hey, well since I am new around these boards, i just wanted to say congrats on orderng your new car. I just have some newbie questions.

-What does "pdi" stand for?

-i have never believed in ordering or pre-ordering something such as a car but the rx-8 is a great investment that is slowly changing my mind. So what happens when you actually order your car? do you put a down payment for it? do you just go in and order the car with the options you want and wait for it to come in and then pay for it? what was your experience like Slick? I'd like to know the process b/c i would seriously consider going to the dealership and ordering rather than waiting for the next shipment to come in with the ptions i want. Thanks!

not sure whether it is the same in the US, but here in the UK, pdi stands for Pre Delivery Inspection

It's coming from another dealer.

It means Post Delivery Inspection

i'm failry new to this forum as well....i put down a deposit on a car and it came in yesterday....but i had changed my mind abt it 'cos the dealer wanter $1000 over msrp....also it was not made to my order....the dealer tried real hard to sell it to me...but i would like my rx-8 to be the way i want it....
i put down a deposit oat another dealership...this time i chose the options,etc....but mine won't be here until late october....btw i live in tempe and this dealer is in phoenix...
i haven't heard of any pre-order done now, getting delivered in august, unless the pre-order matches whatever the dealer has coming in.....

i think "pdi" means pre delivery inspection....

Did you order or take one of the dealer's allocation cars. Reason why I ask that is I have a distinct feeling that if you ordered, you won't have it in August.

I supposedly ordered my car the day before the last day to order from the factory. This was back in mid June. I think it was the 13th or 14th that I ordered. At least that is what the dealer said. He was happy because my order did not affect his car allocations.

Who is that Masked man?

aar_eks_8:

Why not post the name of the "IP OFF"Dealer so others can avoid dooing business with them. Most dealers around the country are doing the right thing by offering cars as list which IMHO is more than fair. Dealers like the one that wanted to hit you up for an extra Grand don't deserve any business and we on this forum can make a difference.

aar_eks_8 07-17-2003 04:35 PM

the dealer who tried to sell it to me at $1000 over msrp is "Earnhardt's Ford/Mazda"...when I put down the deposit they said I could walk away from the car if I didn't like it...and when I wanted to do just that, they started saying "we had a deal" ....anyways, they didn't even have decent brochures earlier...and they were being real car salesmen (if you know what i mean)

showcase mazda in phoenix is selling it for msrp.....the people at this dealership are also nicer...i was referred to them by another member in this forum (SPDFRK)....

(maybe this posting should be in the "dealers discussion thread")...

...if you are choosing the color, interior and all the options while putting down a deposit....then you should demand the price in writing...so that things don't change later.. also this way you can prevent the dealer from adding things to the car....

I ordered mine. It's not coming out of AZ it's coming out of SC where I have some family that works for Mazda. I have consistently had problems in AZ with dealerships when it comes to buying the cars I like. I like black and dark colored cars. AZ dealerships always want to give you the run around because they don't keep dark cars on the lot. And this is with cash in hand I like to get my financing from my bank so I don't have to play games with the dealerships.

Larry Miller in Peoria is also only charging MSRP plus the tax in Peoria is 7.8% as opposed to 8.2% in Tempe.

Apex Eater 07-21-2003 05:04 PM

Earnhardt's is a joke of a dealer, I went in to look at the 8's on the first day they arrived and a sales rep was nice and took me out back to where the cars where being held. When I asked about a test drive he stated they were only allowing test drives to people who sign a "intent to buy form". I explained that I have no intention of buying a car that I have not driven, he just said that was the "policy".

To make matters worse they had a mark up of $4000. When I explained that Showcase was offering them at MRSP, he is like" I don't know how they can do that".

When I am ready to buy it will not be from them.

Congrats on your order!

I would like to state for the record that Red Devil is right. The car won't be here until closer to Sept.
