Inquiry about possible Rx8 purchase

Hey guys I was looking at a 2007 Rx8 with 70k miles on it, the car looks beautiful and I had one of the dealers take it for a drive for me because I live 2 hours away. My only concern though is that I just looked at the carfax's and the last owner owned the car for 10 months and drove it over 18k miles. Almost 2k miles a month seems like a lot, would this cause any problems or should the car be fine as long as I have it checked by a Mazda dealer?

Moved to Purchasing.

If the engine has poor compression, then don't buy it.

If the engine has good compression, then it's a viable purchase.

As long as it wasn't neglected, high mileage rate isn't inherently a problem. I did 8,330 miles in 10 days 2.5 years ago. Doing a bit over double that over 10 months is a much slower rate.

Ok thank-you, I talked with the dealer and he said it was fine if I took it too a mazda dealer as long as I covered the cost of the tests. Does anyone have an idea of the price from their previous services for a compression test.

it can be anything from $0 to $250, though usually in the $120-$150 range. Depends heavily on the dealer.

gracias, also one more thing, it has been a while since I checked the forums. Has there been any problems reported on the 2007 or have all previous flaws been fixed (i.e flooding(though you should always let your car warm up no matter what type))

I appreciate your help RIWWP, I think you deserve a raise. Out of my almost 20 posts your have responded to every single one.

if you do take it to mazda ask them if the motor has ever been replaced under warrenty. Although not necessarily a deal breaker if it has, its always nice piece of mind to know that you can get it replaced. Personally I would get one still under warrenty.

See my new owner thread. There aren't many things "fixed" compared to earlier years, the only critical one is the MSP-16 flash that 2004s and some 2005s didn't get. For everything else, 2007s have the same flaws as 2004s, 2005s, 2006s, and 2008s.

Using your example, I believe post #2 has the section on flooding, which will illustrate why the year of your car wouldn't matter, and a 2011 can flood just as easily as a 2004 if the owner ignores maintenance, and isn't a problem on either if the owner keeps up with it.
