Help deciding between RX-8's

I am looking at the following RX-8's:

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...&&aff=national

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national

http://beta.vehix.com/detail/cars/ob...ser=dmVoaXg%3D

Which ones do you like? Do you think they are all good?

I kinda like RX8 #3 because of the Sunroof.. but idk..

sjschutz 09-27-2011 06:32 PM

I would personally go with the first. It's the newest, has the lowest miles, and is an R3. The 2009 R3 isn't a bad choice either. Depends how important the sunroof is to you. You could probably haggle the dealer down on the 2010 anyways, and I think the '10 looks much better too.

It really boils down to what you're looking for in a car. Either way if you can afford an R3, then get one. They'll hold value better than S1 and S2s and have everything (flashes, slight engine/suspension updates) up to date.

I didn't even know the first one was an R3 :O.

How can you tell the differences between an R3 and the others? I thought they were just performance upgrades?

Either way I do really love the first one. Plus only 1k miles is great! It all depends if I get this job.. I'll find out tomorrow if I do, and if I do, I can afford the R3!

R3 period.

sjschutz 09-27-2011 06:58 PM

An R3 is just the latest versions of the RX-8. They have an upgraded suspension, those lovely Recaro front seats, and a few other amenities not available for the S1. The engine is relatively the same, besides the upgraded starter and all that jazz. You'll get the same basic power, but it'll be more reliable. The S1s are fine cars as long as you keep them up to date with flashes and TSBs.

Again, pick up an R3 if at all possible. You won't be disappointed.

Good luck on getting your job. Keep us updated.

Look at this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/purchasing-financing-insurance-56/year-year-changes-143280/

That shows year to year changes for the RX-8. The later versions = better versions.

r3's got different front bumper, sideskirts and bigger wheels than all the rest

Dark_Rider2k3 09-27-2011 07:09 PM

Oh Okay for some odd reason I thought the R3 was a higher end model then the GT.. didn't know it was the new style. I knew of the styling change (like how the 3's front bumper changed to the same sort of style..), but didn't know it was considered an R3. But yeah I think that's what i'm going for is that R3 then. I might take a look at it tonight but idk.

And I'll let you all know how it goes! This job is going to pay me close to 18 an hour! (about 17.80 starting) so yeah! I'll definitely be able to afford the RX8. I posted here ages ago looking so yeah finally finding ones I like.. and having the RX8 will help me in restoring my other love ('92 Mazda MX-3 BP)

edit:

also what do you mean by "OMP?" in the changes log you guys made? (You said fully electric OMP design).

jskup1 09-27-2011 08:20 PM

If I was you, I'd buy this one!https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8s-sale-wanted-43/2005-pettit-supercharged-rx-8-grand-touring-220481/:jump:

sjschutz 09-27-2011 09:20 PM

OMP = Oil Metering Pump. It's essential in order to properly lubricate the apex seals.

Also, jskup1, that is a beautiful '8. Maybe I missed it in the F/S thread, but what are the numbers it's putting out? Looks like you've put a lot of time into it and it's very clean. Nicely done!

EDIT:
Actually Dark Rider2k3, with all the work that has been put into jskup1's car and how low the mileage is, he's offering it as a seriously good price. It's definitely worth a look. Although if this is going to be your first rotary, you'll definitely want to do LOTS of research before buying one with a supercharger.

Dark_Rider2k3 09-27-2011 09:47 PM

Wow... I am definitely going to PM abuot it. Simply because I have a friend in Virginia Beach too (well at the Air Force Base)

Easy_E1 09-27-2011 10:37 PM

R3. :icon_tup:

monchie 09-27-2011 11:29 PM

Without the sunroof...don't buy it, lol

Bladecutter 09-28-2011 11:01 AM

I looked at the carfax's for all three cars, and that R3 had been in several times for the rear axle to be looked at. All in under 2k miles, too. Something might be wrong there.

The third car had its automatic transmission changed before 9400 miles.
Something wrong with that one, too, I bet.

The second and third ones have a more visible maintenance history with oil changes, so if you can call up the places to get records of the oil changes, those would be the ones I would recommend. Don't want Mazda to screw you over for lack of records before you bought the car, like they are other members of the forum, now do you?

Also, if you're willing to pay that much for a car, try and get a deal on a new 2010 or 2011 sitting on a lot.

BC.
