Flatso finally did it!
 

After reading the board for a month or so I finally decided that even with the few issues I have read about the vast majority here are very happy with their purchases and I purchased an RX-8 today(I should never have taken that test drive as I already have an 2001 BMW Z3. Maybe I can be on MTV Cribs soon.):D. First I will bore you with my cars options:

SUNLIGHT SILVER
Equipment IN-DASH 6-DISC CD CHANGER , REAR WING SPOILER , SPARE TIRE KIT STR , WHEEL LOCKS WLK, SPORT PACKAGE M/T , APPEARANCE PACKAGE , ROTARY ACCENT PACKAGE 2RP no moonroof as it robs too much headroom for me 6 feet 3.

OK, After thanking this group for their insight I would also like to thank Al Gore for inventing the internet because it truly is the best and easiest way to get information and to comparison shop. When all is said and done I got the car for $750 under invoice, if you add the $200 "doc" fees(croc fees!!!!) back I got the car about $500 under. I asked the Internet Manager if they made any money on me and he said the lost about $300(so they must be getting money back from Mazda) but they need to get the cars out of their inventory because it costs them $$ each month to own unsold vehicles(this is pretty common knowledge). Said they ordered 8's thinking the car would launch in the Spring and due to the late launch had more cars then they could sell by year end( I live in Central NJ). If your waiting on the side folks now is a good time to buy. Though I am happy about getting this good a price I do have concerns about resale value if the car is being discounted this much this early(not Mini residules me think). And of course hope I am in the happy majority and don't have any major problems with my vehicle. I asked him about the flooding issues and he claims to not have heard of it. I look forward to sharing my RX-8 experiences with this great forum we have!

How much was the final "invoice" below price? Alot of dealers claim invoice price, but sometimes they show you some hyped up invoice price. Tricky Bastards.

Suprisingly I used Edmunds and Cars direct invoices for reference and the dealers total invoice was less(The sports pack was lower on the dealers invoice and some other small stuff). Maybe there has been a price increase to explain the difference?

Actually - I'd recommend not only a drool towel, but a bib, and some Tylenol. Your jaw,(not to mention the rest of your facial muscles are going to be sore). :D

I would recommend bringing a camera.. not only to take some awesome pics of you beautiful new car but to also document your pickup! I know my family had a lot of fun looking at the pictures I sent them of my car that day I got it..

If it is snowing on Friday, don't drive it anywhere. In fact don't drive it at all in snow unless you are running snow tires. Enjoy your new ride!! :)

Besides everything that's been suggested so far, I would suggest you plan to spend a 1/2 hour or so going over the car with a fine tooth comb, looking for anything wrong. I caught a chipped wheel this way, even tho my car only had ~3 miles on it! Specifically look for paint or finish blemishes, make sure the dealer prep was done right (like making sure the floor mat anchors are installed, etc), and check all the fluid levels.

thanks everyone.... picked the car up yesterday in 0 degree temps brrrrrrr. I specifically asked about the flooding problem and he said he was not aware of any such issue and that the cars have been very reliable at least the ones he has sold(this of course could be salesman bs). Anyway, absolutely love the car and the only downside was in all my checking of paint and such I neglected to notice the dealership had put their name in a chrome type thingy on my trunk:mad:. The dealer says its just attached by tape and easily removed, we shall see.

Congrats on the car! I can say that in the roughly 3 months that I've had mine:D that I haven't had any flooding issues. But I also read the owners manual cover to cover, (twice!), and have had prior experience with rotary engines. My dealer had their chromed free advertising on the deck lid much the same as yours does, (or did :) ). It did come off real easily, but I proceeded quite slowly, and no damage done! The dealer or salesman is full of it about the flooding issue - any Mazda dealership should know about it. Salesperson was blowing smoke. BUT, it's not as big a deal as it might look at first blush... I have yet to have a problem, and most others haven't either.

Anyway, CONGRATS on your car! The dealer logos will come off with a hair dryer. Heat 'em up, and peel them off. You can get any residue that's left off with Goo Gone.

well the car started today in sub freezing temps and I drove about 200 miles and the stories about bad gas mileage weren't lies.:D The car handles like a dream and I got the dealer chrome sticky off with some WD-40 and patience.
