On the fence +warranty question

First of all, Hello! I'm new to the club, and cant wait to buy my first 8! Here is my problem.

I'm on the fence about pulling the trigger on a '04 RX8 GT. It has 93000km (i'm in Canada). It's being sold by a used dealer, and he is offering a 2 year warranty. As far as i know, it's the original engine. My question is this...If I buy it and the engine goes at say 110,000, will my purchased warranty cover the cost of a replacement? If so, would it be a re-build or new?

My second question is, say I have no problems over the 2 year window of my warranty, and I drive it up to 125,000km. What happens at that point? Do I go to a mazda dealership and buy a new warranty (will they even sell me one?), or am I on my own at that point?

Question 3 - Durring my test drive, the check engine lite came on. They are going to have it checked out tomorrow for me, and they say it's probably a sensor. If I were to buy it, and it turned out to be something more serious, would the warranty that I purchased cover pre-existing problems??

Any help would be awesome, as this will be my first 8 and I'm prety nervous about getting it. I love them, but I've gotten pretty paranoid over the last few days reading through the forums.

bump

sorry to bump this so fast...but I may be closing this deal tomorrow. Any advice at all would be appriciated.

I would not trust a dealer to tell me what the check engine light was for on a used car they are trying to sell me. I would have told them we are taking it to autozone(or a similar canadian business that reads codes free) now or you can show me the code reader at the dealership.

Nobody can really comment on the warranty they offer unless you want to show us the whole thing on here by a scanned image or you typing it out. Fine print can be a bitch, so reading the whole thing is what you need to do.

Is this a Mazda dealer your buying it from? I would think the dealer could answer every single question you have asked here and with much more accuracy than we could.

ANY car that pops a CEL on a test drive should NEVER be purchased, if you don't know anything about that car.

With this car, that CEL could be for a multitude of reasons.

Could be a misfire caused by bad plugs, wires, or coils.
Could be catalytic converter efficiency code.
Could be malfunctioning secondary air pump.

You don't know.

If its the first, that's fairly inexpensive to replace.
If its the second, that's fairly expensive to replace.
If its the third, its somewhere between the other two for cost.

Or it could be something else entirely.

You should not buy this car if it can't make it all the way through a test drive without the CEL turning on.

BC.

I agree with xexok, the answers to your questions are all in the fine print.

No A/C coverage. Is there a deductable and what about belts and hoses?

xexok 06-07-2011 11:57 AM

That towing reimbursement is a joke, you would be lucky to get hooked up to the tow truck for only $50, let alone have your car moved anywhere.

I would still be a bit wary of this car since it had a cel in the first place. It might have been something easy, but maybe not.
