Dealer Cost to CPO RX8

Basic question--how much does Mazda charge a dealership to CPO a used rx8?

Does it vary with mileage and remaining factory warranty? Trying to figure out as I am considering a 2009 GT with under 20k on it, and they are using the CPO as a bargaining incentive. Want to know what the value vs. aftermarket warranty offerings.

Honestly, its not that much of a barganing chip for the dealer anymore, as people have learned over the years that dealers can fake the CPO process, or not finish pushing the paperwork through to fully CPO the car, yet says it meets CPO requirements.

The amount of work equals only 1 or two hours of shop time, and if you multiply that across a car lot having 50 to 100 CPO vehicles, do you really think a dealer is having their service department do that to every used vehicle that comes in their shop?

I would tell them that the only way you would take that is if you get to watch their service tech do the CPO inspection process in front of you. That's the only way you would truly know the car was completely inspected, and it was done right.

BC.

I can see where the dealership may skimp on the actual inspection process, but the car would still have the 5 yr/100k bumper to bumper warranty should anything actually go wrong.

I thought, though, that the dealership had to essentially "buy" the warranty from mazda, since it would be mazda eating the repair bill if something did need to be fixed under the CPO warranty timeframe.?:scratchhe

Is it really nothing more than a dealer shop inspection that make the car CPO (not qualified, but actually warrantied)?

When I purchased my car it was a MSRP of 1500 and the dealer price was around 399....

I would have to pull out my receipts though to verify it.

Actually a ton of dealers aren't legally selling these. Mazda requires that the selling dealer do the CPO inspection. Cars that are traded between dealers generally are not reinspected so the selling dealer is violating mazdas requirements. I know because I had the power steering fail on the way home after purchasing my rx8 used and have had several conversations with mazda corporate on this. Still having to fight the warranty claim to get my money back as the service center that fixed it claim it was a pre existing condition.
