Cheaper if ur a Costco Member

Hi guys, Just wanted to let yall know that if you are wanting to buy a new rx8, become a Costco executive member... You get discounts at selected dealerships. and mazda is one of them. just thought ud like to know.

How do u become a Costco member?

My girlfriend bought her Mazda3 this way. We have a membership and then you go online or in store...fill out a form and decide the kind of car you want (RX-8, 6sp, etc.) and then a local dealer calls you. Then gives you a price...non-negotiable (supposedly non-negotiable :D).

The price for her car was straight dealer invoice+$400-any rebates/promotions=Total

For her it was invoice+$400-$500student discount=her total

BUT me, being the obnoxious person I am said, as for better :D...since they have a contract with costco for deals this way they are not supposed to waiver from the price...so forget moving the price around...BUT we got her a the OEM Mazda3 spoiler, painted, and installed with the package which was worth around $500 if we would have had it done by them (on my own prices/install would be less but you get the idea).

Overal the experience was great...although I still love to haggle :D

AAA has similar arrangements, ie a 'fixed' price for members at participating dealerships :D

Are you sure that it's not just a "car buying service" where they have an agreement with a set of dealers to offer you a fixed price? With those car buying services they will often get you close to invoice which for most cars and for many buyers is better than they can do. For the RX-8 it seems that it's not hard to get them for invoice even if you are only a mediocre haggler. If you're a good haggler then you can beat the buying services pretty easily for an hour or two of work. If you can save $500 over the buying service or more (not that hard) for that hour or two that is a pretty good hourly rate. I have access to two buying services - one through work and one through my credit union - and neither of them got better deals than I got on the RX-8 or the VW a few years ago.

in regards' to my gf's mazda3 deal I had already wandered in to the same dealership...on a different day with different people and haggled for a while and left then they called us back...and then I said give me the night to think about it...the next morning came in, got the costco price and was shocked to find it was lower by a few hundred

now that could have been my haggeling skills but I haggle with no mercy so unlikely

It doesn't hurt to have the car buying service price as a fallback. I got the prices from both of the ones available to me when I bought the RX-8 and Passat. It gives you a lot more basis to haggle from - you know that no matter what you've got a decent price to go back to. It gives you a lot of room to be merciless. My Passat was bought in early '98 when every dealer had $1000 or more of ADM or EDP (Added Dealer Markup / Extra Dealer Profit) on the window stickers of every car. Got the car for a hair over invoice and $500 below the buying service.

The real secret is to care less than the salesman about making the sale - "he who cares least wins". Never fall in love with the car or at least never let the salesman know you have.

Yes, with the costco discount, you should at least get 500+ off with this discount... that is if the car os over 20k. which isnt that bad... hey, its 500 bucks to buy the MS spoiler... or put it towards ur Greddy exhaust. I was lucky, Costco Discount, Plus im dating a girl with a daddy that is a sales rep.... ill post pics of the hot sexy lady tonight.... oh, and my g/f too :)
