Can dealer remove rear wing spoiler on new RX-8?
 

Searching inventories, it seems most remaining '05 RX-8s have the rear wing spoiler. If I don't want one, can the dealer remove it? If so, can it be removed without in any way marring the paint on the trunk? (I'm kinda doubting the spoiler can be removed.)

Depends, Removing it is not problem, its just the patch work that will have to be done to cover up the holes.

Im not 100% if the dealer will do it for you, but you can always buy it, go to a good body shop, get them to remove it and cover up the holes, and then maybe just try to sell the spoiler on here.

I had the same problem, but in the end I had them swap trunk lids. I found the car I wanted, but it had a spoiler, so I asked them if they'd swap the trunk lid from another they had on their lot and they did it with no problem.

You definitely need bodywork if you want the spoiler removed. I'm pretty sure there will be scruffs and stratches and no doubt the holes. crisis got a good idea about asking the dealer to swap trunk lids if there is any without them.

It's not on there with superglue - it's bolted through the metal with 1/4" bolts. Unless you want to start your new car experience with non-factory paint (not something I'd want to do), just ignore the wing. I didn't want the wing on mine, but the dealer gave me such a deal that I just ignore it.

If you pull the wing off, there's a total of 6 holes that would need to be patched (3 on each side) plus paint. (Yeah, I know there's only 4 bolts holding the wing on but two other holes are hidden and mate up with the alignment pegs).

The dealer or a body shop should have plastic or rubber plugs in their inventory to fill the holes. Assuming no other scratches upon removal, you would not need to repaint. You can paint the plugs with touch-up paint to make them less noticeable.

Another paint hint: I always keep a black "paint pen" around (available for $2.50 at Michael's) for touching up the black trim areas on cars. Their silver paint pen works well on chrome/aluminum/silver trim that is missing paint. Can also be used to paint the raised lettering on many auto parts. Great around the house for touch up as well.

No offense dcnsx, but if I was buying a brand new car I wouldn't accept painted rubber plugs on my trunk.
VERY creative solution for anyone who takes their spoiler off afterwords though.
