Availability

I purchased my 8 about a month and a half ago and was able to just walk on the lot and purchase what I wanted but I continue to see those that are awaiting their 8 to be delivered. Are there some areas where the availability of the cars are limited?

I know my local dealership has several still in stock but my salesperson did say that in some parts of the country dealerships were marking up the price due to limited availability. Is this still the case?

Just curious.

I've seen ads out here in So California for cars selling below invoice.

I'm in Florida (Orlando) and dealers here have a lot of 8's on the lot. One has at least 11-15! I'm hoping that this will help, when it comes time to buy.

I've seen prices higher in different parts of the country, while browsing the web... it must have to do with availability.

Here in Texas the supply seems to be pretty good. My local dealer has 5 right now. If you head a little south to Dallas/Fort Worth area the lots are even more packed. One(Hiley Mazda) has 20 right now on their lot.

You will also see higher inventory rates this time of year. Most dealerships have extra cars on the lots.

Mid Feb to April, all cars will start to move again at a higher rate.

It really depends where you live. Less populated areas are going to have fewer, and in places like Texas, California, Florida, you're going to see a ton. And as Magnesium says, you're going to see a higher inventory right now anyway. Mazda is also not limiting the production- so, for example, there are twice the number of RX-8s that there are 350Zs available at any given time.

Plus, the dealerships are waiting on more to come in. A local one here in SoCal has been waiting on new ones for over a month now. They already have the shipping invoices but are at the mercy of the port.

In the UK, supply is extremely limited, they are quoting July delivery if you order today! I ordered mine the first weekend in October, and picked it up on Friday. The 8 was not officially on sale in the UK until the 1st November, so demand is very high especially after all the good writeups about the car.

I've been checking inventory via Mazda and dealer websites in the Seattle area. One dealer has 37 listed. And we all know the Internet never lies. :)

I'm going to find out how bad he wants to reduce that to 36. :D

There are tons of 8s on the lots in the San Francisco Bay Area. I can confirm that dealer invoice in a base 6-spd 8 is what Edmunds says it is: $25,179. I'm pretty sure a local dealer would accept $25,500 if the buyer is willing to commit.

IMHO the base 6-spd is underrated. If you want lean, clean and mean, as well as lightweight and uncomplicated, get the base model. It lacks nothing you really need. And by virtue of its lighter weight, it's the fastest and best-handling RX-8. The fabric upholstery looks great and to me is way more comfortable than the leather.

when i bought mine here in vegas, the salespeople pretty much sucked, but they had like 15-20 rx8's on their lot at a time. they were always stacked so you could find one that YOU wanted
