automatic trans / manual trans pricing
It seems that the automatics are cheaper...
What do you lose with the automatic? Do you lose hp/performance? /gC |
everything

Yes--the auto is rated at 197HP(4-port renesis) where as the 6spd is (6-port renesis). The auto is about 2-3 seconds slower than the 6spd. It handles the same--just slower.

The automatic RX-8 runs a 4 port version of the Renesis that only makes 197HP. The 6 speed manual runs a 6 port Renesis that makes 238 HP. The redline on the automatic is 7800 RPM, on the 6 speed it is 9000 RPM. The auto has 4 gears, the manual has 6.
Plus it is well know with autos there is more drivetrain loss I believe. |
Power sapping torque converter. If money is an issue (like it was for me) or you refuse to learn how to drive stick then auto is a fine car. I definately plan on going to 6spd next time around.

Wow. Those are some major differences....

Rumour has it that for 06 Mazda will be mating a 6spd auto with the 6-port renesis--with an even further rumour that they are working on a SMG style unit as well.

A six speed auto trans....that would be cool... :) If they can design a good six,it very well be something to consider. I like my manual way to much to make the switch but time will only tell...
