Another "What do you guys think?" thread. '04 59K or '06 66K

So I have been in the market for a while now. Looking at cheaper new stuff to used nicer stuff.

I love the RX-8 and have for quite a while now and am leaning that direction. Now I have two options in this department that are close to what I am looking for...

1) 2006 Black 6MT with 66K for $12,000 (negotiable I am sure)
2) 2004 Red 6MT with 59K for $9,900 (negotiable I am sure but probably not as much)

The '06 has a CEL for the coolant sensor, but the current owner is going to pay to have that corrected and he tells me all the recalls and TSBs have been completed. Still need to run a Carfax, but from what I can tell by a thourough inspection it looks fairly clean.

The '04 has a clean Carfax, but is a 3 Owner car and the first was a corporate leasing company so no telling what sort of life it has lived.

This is going to be a daily as my '98 240SX is going under the knife soon. Both feel like the engine is still strong. The '06 has been getting oil change every 2500 to 3000 and the 04 has been getting dealer serviced. No info on plugs and coils for either.

Opinions? Thanks in advanced!

Get the '06.

The guy with the '06 already sent me a text dropping the price by $500. I might call him tomorrow and offer him $11,000 cas and see if he bites.

You need to phone him and say $10500, then he'll say $11000 then you say sold

06 is definitely your best bet. 3 owners for the 04 is 2 owners to many IMO.

So now I get to try and play let's make a deal with the guy.

Bank will only loan 10K on it, even with excellent credit. I would do $11,000 but don't have the extra 1k just laying around since I just moved. (I have money set back but it is for TT&L.) I really don't want to go more than $11K on this one since I am going to have to do plugs, wires and coils first thing since I am certain they have not been done.

He has been trying to sell it for at least 2 weeks now and has come down $1k in that time. I might wait it out a bit and see if he goes down anymore.

Easy_E1 05-17-2010 07:59 PM

I'd wait it out a bit longer. Another week, another $1000.00. :dunno:

That's what I am thinking. If it sells then it sells. I'm not hurting horribly for a ride right now. The 240SX is still running strong, but the clutch is starting to slip a tad. It will surely last me another month or so considering I only drive a few miles to work everyday.

You can always get a smaller signature loan for say 600 or 1000

Possibly. I am going to look at the '04 today. I looked real closely at the Carfax and it has been dealer maintained for the last 4 years like clockwork at the local Mazda Dealership. Every 3000 to 3500. I am going to call them and ask them about the car. All of the Carfax records are routine maintenance and when it was sold/re-titled.

Venkmen 05-18-2010 11:40 AM

Oh and they have already come down to $9500 on it. Could possibly get it on the cheap. It looks like it was a repo from the last owner so they can't be deep into it.
