Of all things - I have to wait longer

Just followed up on my 8 that I ordered three weeks ago. The car was due at the dealer last week. I called today to ask what's up and they said they can't get the car out from the port. They are telling me that they would have to take delivery on 15 8's if they are going to get mine. They are full right now on 8's because no one is buying them. They couldn't find the car I wanted anywhere else in the region either. Is this for real? Since I have the S-plan, I was like this is the car I want and since I have the S-plan, you can't incent me any further to take a different car (hint - since you are full - will you go significantly below invoice;) - they didn't bite). I also said I don't want any car that has been test driven either. I have 3 more weeks until my lease on the Integra is up, so I have a ride, but the suspense is killing me.

Hey cruzdreamer,
Thanks for the words of encouragement, but I saw them too late. I used the Mazda website and found the exact same car 50 miles away. Man was the original dealer pissed, but I now have my 8 :). Only thing I didn't get that I wanted was the Alarm Shock Sensor. I will probably have that installed on the first scheduled maintenance.

You made the right choice Dag.

As far as I know, the Alarm Shock Sensor is not currently avaliable.
I could'nt add that option when I ordered mine. The dealer told me that Mazda was having problems with it.

The dealer I didn't buy the car from was pretty good in the end. They gave me two free oll changes :). In the end I know I did the right thing. I think they were stalling in order to get the sale in Feb. (the must have made their Jan. quota). I was pretty upset that they weren't being upfront with me. I don't get that. Why not just be up front. Friday - I got the story above. Sat. I bought my new car and cancelled the order with them and all of a sudden they would have had my car on Monday. In the end they lost the sale. Why take the chance?

Hi Dag,

Looks like you did the right thing. At first when i had read that you had gone to another dealer , i thought that that was wrong. But when you elaborated and explained that the dealer was now saying you could pick it up monday, that just shows that they were not really thinking about you the customer. It amazes me that dealer do this, i am a dealer in Australia. And until the car is delivered the money is not in the bank, the car is sitting there costing you money. Why do they do this.

My wife has a friend that has worked at dealerships in California and NJ for several years now (selling Toyota's & now Chevy's). My wife told her the plot as it progressed and she was saying that the original dealer wasn't being honest and that she never heard of what the dealer said. Unfortunately the friend was in the Carribbean this weekend, so I couldn't really talk to her at each turn. I really felt bad for the salesperson, but I also know the salesperson is there to smile and keep me there. The decisions are made by the managers.
