KW Variant 3 Coilovers

Prefer local buyer; will move to main classifieds if this does not sell locally.

I bought these in the spring of '09, but have not been on my car for the last 6 months. So, about 18 months of usage - unsure of exact mileage, but under 20k for sure. Probably under 15k.

Dampers are in excellent condition. No leaks, shafts are clean and in good conditions. All adjustors work properly, and the threads on the bodies are in good condition.

There is only one issue:

The threads in the plastic perch has stripped and the allen set-screws cannot be fully tightened in two of the perches. Note that this is NOT the threads that move the perch up and down on the body - those threads are steel and are in fine working order. I am talking about the set-screw that is used to lock the perch once the correct height has been set. The closeup shows one of these set-screws.

This is a common problem with KWs, as the thread are small (2 mm allen key) and the plastic in the perches are soft. Once I realized I had stripped the threads, I just snugged them down as much as they would take and didn't have any problems witht he perches moving. An industrious person might find the next larger size of set-screw and cut new threads. Or, replacements can be ordered from KW. Price reflects this issue.

Otherwise, kit is complete with all springs, bump-stops, etc.

$1100 OBO.

Note to Seattle/Northern WA folks - I'll be in Packwood, WA on the 13-14th of August, and can arrange a swap there if that works for anybody.

Tempting.......

Selling cause you sold your 8?

GeorgeH 08-01-2011 10:42 PM

No, I replaced them with some custom made, custom valved, Bilsteins from FatCat Motorsports.

The KWs are very good, however. Based on what I've seen, I'd take the KWs over Bilstein PSS9s, although I've never driven the PSS9s so take that with a grain of salt.

In any event, the KW V3s are a lot of performance for the money, particularly at the price I'm selling them at. ;)
