Top Gear Review
Long story short, Do you guys fine the RX8 twitchy in the rain, like Top Gear said on the Rx8 review?
Because I dont, for me its one of the safes car to drive in the rain. Maybe they said that because of the factory tires, that were not that good. What do you guys think! |
My MS intake sucks up so much water I can't rev past 5k RPM, so no... not twitchy at all...
Just kidding, I feel very safe in raining conditions, the balance of the car and the lack of torque makes the 8 easy to steer into corners. |
^ same, if my ms intake was a girl, well you get the rest....

with traction control on no. With it off it can be. Also depends on the tires installed. They could have been on summer tires. I loved that episode too.

Overall the trend to ever wider tires is not the friend of wet traction. Still, IMO, the stock alignment specs tend to make the car a bit tail happy. I've been glad to have stability control a couple of times in wet weather. With the present camber settings of -1.6 deg front and -2.2 rear, the handling is less lively at the limit, but more secure.
|
They said that that because of the factory bridgestone tires that came on the 04's. There is a reason they switched to dunlops on the later model years. Change the tires and you wont have that problem. My falken 452's feel invincible in the rain.

In the video shows he test drove part of it on a wet road. I have a feeling he was getting a little input from his producer about the other high priced cars he drove that year would not have looked to favorable of his "best car I drove this year" statement. Politics suck so we'll blame the skittish tires.

^No I didn't. Not to be smart so where do they get their funding just asking?

In the upper rev's the 8 can be "twitchy" in the rain, but that's what a soft throttle foot is for. Even with the Nexen n3000's I ran on Ruby, she could be a bit of a handful, requiring a lot of extra attention, but only when I as out PLAYING in the rain.
I put Falken Azinis RT 615 K's on Mirall. I've not had much wet weather with them, but I imagine they're considerably less friendly in the rain than the Nexen's were (more rubber, less tread). |

Thats what makes this show the best car show out there. No sponsors equals no body to pull funding if they don't like a review.
Though I personally agree with the review in some context. Right turns from dead stop in rain, I had to be careful and pay attention to my throttle usage. I think its more the giant difference. If a normal car handles at a 4 and goes to a 3 in rain, I feel like an 8 handles at a 5 then goes to a 3 or a 2 in rain. Its just a bigger difference than other cars simply because its so beautiful on dry pavement. |
I think people need to understand that Top gear sometimes more about the entertainment then real fact. Just like the Tesla review, which they pretty much lied about when the car ran out of power (not that I am fan, I’m not). I had a 350Z and Clarkson hated the thing. It still is the best show on TV and I'm glad they had some good things to say about the Eight. However, you have to take everything they say with a grain of salt.

Tires make a huge difference on how any vehicle performs in the rain. The RE40s that first came with the 8 sucked in the rain.
