Speeding Ticket
Well after four or five years I got a speeding ticket. I was doing 67mph on a 40mph area, but don"t get me wrong, it was a four lane avenue with no traffic and every time I go on that avenue, people drive the speed limit, I guest know I why!!! This was on Sunrise, in Puyallup!!! and the Ticket was $$$$$$$$$$$$$286.00 ouch!!!!!! So I think I am going to slow down now, I now for the pass couple of years I have been driving faster and faster. I hope other can lean from this!!!

If you haven't had a ticket in a few years, see if you can get the ticket deferred. It doesn't go on your record so your insurance doesn't go up. If you don't get another ticket for 3 years (I think) then it is permanently gone from your driving record. But, if you do get another ticket, it goes back on your record. Sort of like double or nothing.

That sucks ***** man. I've cruised down that road plenty, and my radar detector usually never gives me any beeps. Your talkin about the road where u take a left at the mcdonalds and fred meyer intersection and go to sunrise right? Shoot I raced an Infinity G35 down that road(and won tyvm:D). Sorry bout the unfortunate event. We should all get together and throw in so we can get anibal a good radar detector haha then go drive

fight the ticket!!!
I got pulled over for doing 70 in 60 zone on mukiteo speedway a couple of years ago. Pretty lame..eh? I decided to fight the ticket and won.
Because it was my very first speeding ticket the judge decided to let me off with just a warning. He decided to drop the charges entirely. I didn't have to pay for anything....nothing went on my record...no insurance premium increased..nothing. I was home free!
So you might get lucky like me....there are a lot of judges who are pretty nice and understanding. ........so don't just admit and pay it.....go and fight the ticket! You got nothing to lose.

I got a radar detector, but I was going to fast, So by the time it went off, I hit the break and he was turning his light on, but I guess I could buy a new radar detector since my radar detector is 10 years old. I like it because it is not as big as the new ones!!! and as for the Ticket I pay-it the next day, hoping I don't get in any-more problem with my other legal probrem that I have!!!

You only can get a deferral every seven years. The ticket will remain off your record if you dont get another one in 12 months...I've heard of judges being nice and reducing the trial period to 6 months. If you get another ticket within the trial period, you will be charged for your first ticket as well as the one you just got. You can try to mitigate the 2nd ticket but you will still have to pay the first in full.
If you're thinking fight the ticket, and they got you on radar, only do it if you have a lawyer. There is no chance otherwise, and you will lose your opportunity to mitigate. Good luck

RX8 and a Truk....
I had a 75 in a 55 differed. 8 months later got pulled over and cited with 35 in a 30. The guy never radar'd or laser'd me...just saw me (in the miata at the time) take a left, onto another street, without hitting my brakes. I was going about 20? or so for the hard-right hand turn. Anywho - he followed me or about 1/8 mile, then pulled me over and wrote me up...saying he 'paced me'.
Anywho - my point is, it cost me $200 for an attorney to keep the conviction from happening. If I had been convicted, the 75-in-a-55 would go on my record. $200 once for an attorney = MUCH cheaper than what my insurance rates would have done for 5 years.

I got clocked last month by a trooper at Bothell going 47 in a 35 zone. I was driving my son to school and I was on the left lane and I had to move to the right lane in order to make the next right turn. There was a minivan on the right lane so instinctively I sped up a bit in order to pass him so I could make the right turn at the next street, which heads to my son's school. Then just my luck there was a trooper hiding in one of the driveways and by the time I passed the minivan, I looked over at my rearview mirror and I see him pulling out. He flashed me with his lights when I made my right turn into the street.
Now here's where it gets interesting....
The street going to my son's school is a bit steep going up. So instead of just pulling over at the street, I graciously pulled over at the next driveway so I wouldn't block the flow of traffic. Unfortunately that driveway was more steeper going up. So I downshifted back to 1st gear so I can slowly ease my way up the driveway. I almost let go of the clutch too early and I felt the engine about to stall. I looked at my rearview mirror and the trooper's car was really close to my six. So rather stalling on that steep driveway or causing the trooper to rear-end my car, I stepped on my gas fast and revved the engine so my car wouldn't stall. Now mind you I have a MazdaSpeed dual muffler sport exhaust and a K&N version2 short ram air filter system in my RX8. So when I revved my engine to avoid a stall, it was loud!
I was pretty sure the trooper didn't like that because when we finally pulled over and he walked to my car, he asked me whether "I had a hard time with the clutch going up or was I just 'playing' with him." I looked at him and I told him calmly, "sir, you already pulled me over. Why would I make it worse by 'playing' with you? And yes, sir, I almost stalled my car going up so I had to rev it up to avoid getting stuck in the middle of that steep driveway." He then asked me why was I speeding and I told him I was running late to bring my son to school & I had to pass that minivan in order to make the next right turn. He looked inside my RX8 and saw my 6 year old son at the back in his booster seat. My son even waved to the trooper and said "hi." I was hoping he would give me a warning but he didn't. Wrote me a ticket instead. Ah well, I mailed the ticket back to the courts and asked for a mitigation hearing. They scheduled me on the 28th of this month for the hearing. *fingers crossed*

Funny though... my wife was doing 60 in a 45 zone at SR-9 when she was going to work. She was also running late and was driving her Volvo sedan. A state trooper pulled her over then asked why was she speeding. She said she was late for work at the hospital (my wife works as a registered nurse over at Overlake Hospital). She was also wearing her scrubs. The trooper then just gave her a warning and told her to drive a little bit slower.

one time, I was taking my wife to work, and I past this on mark car, as I past hem , I see all the antennas in the car and I tell my wife that is a cop, I look back and I see his light come on, so I stop before he got to me . I was doing 110 to 120mph. so he ask me why I was going so fast and I toll hem that my wife was late for work and I need it to go back to work at fort Lewis , I was in BDU. So he gave me a $60. ticket for going 100+mph and toll me to slow down!!!

So I showed up in court and when I was called up before the judge, he told me that he no longer has jurisdiction on my case since the officer filed the report on the 7th day. The judge explained to me that the officer (who gave me the ticket) has five days to file the report. Any day after that, the case goes out of his jurisdiction if the ticket is contested. So the judge told me that my only option is to ask for a dismissal. Which I gladly said, "I am asking for a dismissal, sir." He said "okay" and then dismissed my case and the ticket. I thanked the judge and he smiled at me saying, "don't thank me, thank the officer for filing the report late."

I don't get it why all say fight the ticket. I mean you drove past the speed limit, what is there to fight. I understand that you can get away with it that way but is it worth the hassle of court and everything.
Think of it this way, you get a ticket once every 5 years. The ticket is $286. That makes it a cost of 15 cents/day. I promise you the gas cost and value loss of your car is far greater, so why bitch and whine about a measly $286.

The key is knowing when to follow the rules, and when to break the rules.
In the case of the OP, while nearly 70 in a 40 isn't an easy defense, depending on the circumstances of the environment that could have been a safe speed. Even more so with the absense of any traffic!
In the case with Proxi's post I would have attempted to fight that ticket because I don't feel it's ever safe to brake on the street when you can pass. Slowing down is almost NEVER a good idea on busy roads because people are not going to expect it. It's easier and safer for you to increase speed and go around a person.
The law doesn't allow flexibility but this is why police are allowed to give out warnings because sometimes what you did was the best move.
I was stopped for doing 85 in a 65 because the pack of cars i was in started getting restless and people were starting to act like they were going to cause an accident. I saw an opening and sped out of the group and got clear of them. I explained to the cop I was trapped and was afraid someone was going to wreck. He let me off.
Doing 100+ and getting stopped will be very hard to get out of. Still, it's your right to take it to trial and if you feel you have a chance on convincing a judge you did the right thing then go for it!
