Welcome to the club, I use royal purple and I have read of other with 150k miles and even 200+ miles with the original engine!

First thing to do is to read and learn about the rotary engine and get together with other rotary owners after that, then you can decided what to do in your car!

Enjoy your car, it is an amazing car to have and drive!!!

Welcome to the club! Do you already have track experience in WA?

gill201035 02-06-2012 08:33 AM

I have lots of track time in a spec miata in Oregon and northern California, Ive been to the track in Seattle just never driven.
What weight would you recommend of the royal purple?

Sorry I can't give you weights for oil, nor any advice on mods since I'm stock. The only things I can contribute are clubs and street tires, which you probably want something better than street.

There are three clubs that I know of that run at PR (Pacific Raceways or SIR as you may know it.) There's the Alfa and Porsche clubs and then there's ProFormance Racing School. I have only driven with Proformance, so I don't have a lot to compare, but from what I have gathered from talking to people Proformance gets you more seat time and is run a bit more professionally than the other clubs. I know someone that has driven with Alfa and got 4 20 minute sessions, which would be able to run on one tank, with Proformance I have to fill up twice throughout the day and have to fill up on the way home. Proformance will give you 2.5-3 hours of seat time.

Now with Alfa though, from what I've seen, (from taking pictures not driving) group A (the fast group) might be more like actual racing. I did not see any points given for passing and I saw passing on both right and left at the same time. Not sure if that's allowed, but it was done. That might be more up your alley. Now this could have been wreckless drivers ignoring the rules, so call and ask first about the fast groups rules for overtaking.

As far as gas milage on the track, I average about 7 mpg so I don't go over 90 miles on a tank. I went 100 and ran out through T7 at PR and was able to coast off the track. Track exit is after T8. The turns kept the needle artificially high and I thought I had more :lol2: there was also only two laps left in the session.

As far as street tires go, if you want my opinion, the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08s are the way to go! I have driven on the Michelin Pilot Super Sports (not the cups) and I am not impressed. The Yoks seem to have stiffer sidewalls and more grip. I have heard and read that the Dunlop Star Specs don't hold up well on track days. There are several 8club members that swear by them for autox.

Well that's all I got :)
I hope to see you out at the track this year!

Edit: Oh, and Proformance is a bit more expensive too. It's about $80 more (give or take.)

Another thing to add is, get in the habit of topping off your oil every time before going out onto the track. This way you won't accidentally forget and starve your engine. You have a little more than an hour of oil. I think it be safe to say 3/4 quart/hour.

I was going to say congrats, and welcome to the club... But without pics, there's no way to know if you are really telling the truth about acquiring an 8. Proper RX8club forum etiquette is to show off your new ride. ;)
