Repairable?

Last night I swerved to avoid a runaway cart and a little kid running after it in a parking lot and hit a post at 5-ish mph. Now my bumper cover is broken, the driver's side fender is dented (and the wheel well liner underneath it) the turn signal is damaged, and the headlight is sitting askew (I don't see any cracks in it and it still works). There is also a crack in the plastic just above the foglight on that side. As best I can see, there doesn't appear to be any damage to anything underneath the panels and hopefully no frame damage, but will need to take it to the body shop tomorrow so they can do a better job checking it out and assessing the damage as I'm clearly no expert. I'm just worried that the insurance company will say it costs too much to fix and want to total it out instead. Considering everything else with the car is great and it's a cosmetic issue, I don't want that to happen. I know it will be cheaper to get used parts to replace with, but labor is expensive and that will definitely drive the price of repairs up (it was $1200 to replace the bumper cover when someone, backed into me). I'm probably just being paranoid right now, but I'm really upset about the whole thing and feel like an idiot for hitting the post. Does this look like it's going to be really expensive? Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.

Bumper and front lip will be $1000-$1200. After you add in fender, headlight, corner light, wheel well liner and bodywork and paint then I'm thinking $2k-$3k. I'm surprised the hood did not get bent a little.

On that age of a car, they will get used parts when possible. The biggest cost will be labor.

glad to hear you are safe Tif. looks to me like the bumper, lip, fender and driving lamp. head light looks okay.

I'm taking it to the bodyshop in a couple hours after RJ gets up and I can get my mom to come meet me and keep an eye on him while I take care of things Hopefully it's not too bad. and what's really shitty is this is my second accident in less than a week! On Tuesday I got rearended by several cars on my way into work. I lucked out and had no damage to anything but a small crease in my rear license plate and having to go to the hospital to be hooked up to fetal monitors for 6 hours. Now this. You'd swear my car was cursed!

I know the last time my front end was messed up in an accident it cost $8400 for bumper, hood, headlight, frame damage so it has me worried about price. My car wasn't quite a year old at the time so they did use brand new parts to fix it. At this point I don't care about new parts, I just want my car fixed. The insurance adjuster is supposed to be coming to look at it either this afternoon or tomorrow morning. I'm planning to tell the bodyshop to use used parts if necessary to bring the costs down and keep it away from the total range (Oregon law says it has to be at least 80% of the value to total it out and my insurage agent said they also take into account what type of damage was done if it's above that). Two years ago the bumper was replaced when I got backed into and that was $1200. I'm thinking this is going to be in the $4000 range.

At least 3k ~5k to repair depends on which shop and what parts they use.
ie: using aftermarket rep front bumper would be cheaper.

So, it looks like on top of the accident last night someone decide to "help" the damage along. My turn signal is ripped out, my hood is not latching and misaligned, missing a ton more paint, and my wheel well lining is pinned to my tire and my car is longer driveable. I now have a collision claim and a comprehensive claim, so two deductibles to pay now for a total of $350. On the other hand, it divides up cost of damages between the two now. I'm guessing kids at my apartment complex decided to mess with it on me.

They are estimating $4491.39 in damages right now and the insurance adjuster said they'd fix up to $12,000 in damages before they'd consider it totalled. Now waiting to find out how long I'll be without my car. I temporarily have a loaner RAV4 which sucks. I'm on a waiting list for a Mazda 3 or 6.

Wow that's a lot of money for 5 MPH :(

Glad no one got hurt, and at least insurance will fix it :)

Sorry to hear about your accident and getting vandalized afterwards. Don't feel bad about hitting the post, you'd feel a lot worse if it was the kid.

I'm glad insurance is going to fix you up
