Red Light ticket

So I got one of these in the mail now I'm not one of those guys who speeds up when they see a redlight. So by watching this video I am surprised on how this happened. I can only think that the road conditions prevented me from stopping so I instead sped up to try and beat the light but I don't run red lights for this reason so maybe i did it on accident and didn't realize it. So how can I defend my self in court or should I just as for reduction of fine which $100 and pay it? Also not sure on WA state law but this had no signage saying that there was a camera present is that illegal here? Judge for your self

Not saying I did no wrong but I believe if anything it was an honest mistake because if you look at the picture you can clearly see I was doing 2mph under the speed limit so if I had done this intentionally I would have sped up right?

RX8Soldier 04-16-2011 12:36 AM

1. I can't see the pic. No one can (without citation/ plate # and city code)
2. The fact that you were going 2 under means nothing. To me it says that you knew there was a photo radar there, so you slowed down. Whether or not that's the case, I'm sure the court will think along the same lines.
3. Do you have any previous offenses?

josuar88 04-16-2011 12:42 AM

Um slowed down for what? watch the video then maybe you will understand what Im saying

RX8Soldier 04-16-2011 12:43 AM

re-read #1 in my second post. I can't see the vid/pic

josuar88 04-16-2011 12:48 AM

I fixed the original post with the info you requested

RX8Soldier 04-16-2011 12:50 AM

doesn't work :dunno:

kompressorlogic 04-16-2011 12:53 AM

lol damn after watching that video you are fucked. you straight up rolled through that red.... id just ask for a fine reduction. maybe if your lucky theres some kind of technicallity on the camera at that intersection but i doubt it

josuar88 04-16-2011 12:53 AM

just did it worked fine for me? try this link

yeah you should just go for a reduction... from what I saw in the video you were going at a speed where you could have stopped, but you entered the intersection after the light turned red. It's not even a situation where you could say that you were almost through the intersection

josuar88 04-16-2011 01:03 AM

No I understand that ^^^ only thing I feel I could maybe say were the road conditions were bad but I think Im going to ask for fine reduction and man up lol. The thing that makes my I did it on accident case feasible is the fact I did not speed up through the intersection yet instead just rolled through it

JUNKyardHOE 04-16-2011 01:16 AM

yeah most certainly say it wasn't intentional, that will make the price drop when you see the judge

but to be honest in the video it looks like you weren't paying attention... not saying thats what actually happened, but that's what it looks like

josuar88 04-16-2011 01:36 AM

I'd have to agree^^

I lot of people don't know that cops dont actually look at the videos but civilians then send it to one cop who does nothing but sign off on them all day long. Most the time you can get them removed with out having to pay.

Red light camera tickets (as far as I know) are civil offenses, not criminal. This means that there isn't a trial before a judge. It also means it doesn't go against your driving record. If you contest the ticket, you will get a hearing before a person employed by that government entity. They will listen to your statement, watch the video record of the offense and then deny your claim, because they want your money.
Cynical, but realistic

JUNKyardHOE 04-16-2011 11:01 AM

actually that brings up another point... if they can't see your face in any of the pictures then they can't give you a ticket because they don't actually know who was driving the car

alnielsen 04-16-2011 12:38 PM

Because it's a civil offense, the car and therefor, you the owner gets the ticket. Just like a parking ticket.

JUNKyardHOE 04-16-2011 03:00 PM

well I have heard of people getting out of a red light ticket because they said it was a friend that was driving... but maybe that's just oregon

Here in Washington state if your not the one driving then the person who was has to agree to pay the ticket or it falls back on you no way to get it dismissed in the way you said

Just be careful, because if you challenge it in court and LOSE, it goes from being a slap on the wrist to being a moving violation that adds to your insurance cost.
