Need to buy tires soon................

Any advice on a good tire for the NW???? I need to buy some tires for my car in the next few months and wanted to hear what you guys have been running out here. I still have the factory tires 225/40 mounted on 18inch prodrives. Thanks in advance.

Hey Matt, I've been driving (very spiritedly I might add) on all seasons since Oct '06 - I put 28K miles on Kumho Ecsta ASXs. Nice tires for the money (Tire Rack $135 ea). They are getting pretty low on tread (guarantee is 30K). I'm going to buy them again, mostly for their ability to deal with a lot of rain and some snow. I drove in the snow a few times (an inch or 2) and they were great. 245/40ZR18's

Where are you? If you're interested, we could go in on a drop ship and split the $50 delivery fee.

Deathcraft 09-29-2008 01:19 PM

BF Goodrich G-Force Super Sport A/S 245/40ZR 18s

Treadwear - 400AA

I have them for about 6 months now. Love them so far. They're not that expensive either.

You get good traction in light snow. They stick very well in rain.., give you quiet and comfortable ride...

They're not as hard as OEM summer tires....so you might feel a bit difference at high speed cornering... But they're superior in every other way.. :)

So unless you do autocross or track.........., or like to corner at 90+ mph everytime..lol..you should be very happy driving daily on these in NW.. :)

kristopher_d 09-29-2008 07:49 PM

On the other hand, if you do like to corner at absurdly high speeds on a constant basis, the Nexen N3000 is a great tire that's served me well. The sidewall is a bit soft, and the tread lasts a bit too long, but the grip is great for most situations, and they don't even notice standing water. Snow is, admittedly, a different story. I'm on my second set of them right now, and abuse them heavily year round.

Deathcraft 09-29-2008 07:58 PM

^^ why you gotta rain on my parade, Kris! :P hahaha......j/k...nexen tires are great too... My friend has them on his 8..... .... :)

kristopher_d 09-30-2008 07:58 PM

Not raining, just pointing out that some of us have a different idea of how the cars should be driven on a regular basis. Judging by Sunday's comments, there may be some question as to the viability of my definition of "reasonable." :)

fahrfegneugen 09-30-2008 10:56 PM

Where do you buy Nexens at?

swoope 09-30-2008 11:20 PM

might check out edgeracing.com

good service. and they carry the stuff tirerack does not.

I've gotten mine from screaming wheel deals, but I don't have a link. I always wind up searching for them.

L8tr 10-05-2008 09:36 PM

I've really liked my BFG g-Force T/A KDW 2's that I've had for the last year and a half. But if you get snow where your at, then the g-force Super Sports would be better. We only get about 2 days worth of snow per year here. The KDW2's do handle very light snow better than the OEM RE040 which were un-drivable in any snow.

Thoughts on Tires

It is time for tires. Any thoughts on BF Goodrich KDW vs BFG g-force sport? I live in Portland so snow is not a major factor but wet weather traction is. Any thoughts appreciated.

risky business 11-22-2008 06:49 PM

umm... stock size is 225/45/18? and get bfg sports. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....=g-Force+Sport

unless you want a serious tire... then get azenis 615's....

BunnyGirl 11-23-2008 02:24 AM

I just got Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position put on Bella in September. I love them! They are amazing on wet pavement.

shaunv74 11-23-2008 03:16 AM

The BFG KDWs are great 3 season tires but if you're looking for snow traction I would go with Linda's Kumhos.

I'm probably going to need new tires in the spring and I've been considering the n3000. I just did some searching and I didn't find screaming wheel deals, but I did find some places that have them (see below). I haven't ever purchased from any of these places so I don't know if they are all legit. The prices are all for 245/40-18.

Those look like decent prices. I can't find the Screaming Wheel Deals link either now. I know a few people who use edge racing. They have a good rep, which explains the extra cost. Prostreet is just being stupid.

JantzenRX-8 11-26-2008 10:31 PM

I've been running Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position since last March and they're great. They haven't seen any winters yet though :)

Goodyear Eagle F-1 All Seasons

exceptional tire great grip very little noise the OEM tires were noisier beginning to end

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....+F1+All+Season

i got the deal with the rebate last year which paid for the shipping. they're doing it again now

pay no attention to those 3 reviews on that page i have none of those issues and i know a couple others on this board have these tires as well. believe tireracks summary

galleychief 11-27-2008 09:45 PM

Have been using 245/40/18 Pirelli P Zero Nero for last 3 years and have had no complaints. Tried to replace them 8 months ago but Discount Tire didn't have them available so I opted for the P6. Good all weather traction and not as noisey as the stock tires were. I only had to use my zip ties once last winter to get up a particularly icey hill.
