Midpipe

Hello Everyone, I have been considering getting a midpipe for the 8. I know a few of you guys have a midpipe and wanted to get your thoughts. I am looking to get one around 200-250 new if possible or slightly used. I currently have the greddy SP2 along with a AP, what you guys think?

Yeah if you have a cat back it will be loud. That being said, I like mine but the smell and the fumes are an issue.

BTW if you are concerned with it being loud then checkout BHR's single res pipe.

Do you want a cat? That changes things a bit.

You can buy a vibrant resonator off of Amazon for ~$50 and a straight midpipe for $200 and have Brad cut it in (If BHR hasn't made an announcement about a catted midpipe by late February, I'll be offering Brad some Dicks to cut a res and cat into one of those RB pipes for me). That's going to end up loud.

GeorgeH down in Portland has something similar to this and it's a very reasonable noise but he is also using the 100cpi Davesport cat (I think). I forget what Res he used but he paid an exhaust shop to do it so the total ended up much higher than it would be if Brad is willing to.

Matt, did you ever get to hear Erik's car? It was loud, but a great sound, not raspy.

AP is too loud for me unfortunately. I'm not being a little bitch on that one, SCCA has maximum sound requirements for my class. BHR costs more than twice as much as the AP pipe and still doesn't have a cat, something I'm again required to have by my SCCA class. I also don't like the fumes.

Also, my catback is in transit (finally!). When you get back, my car's going to sound pretty different

Erik put the midpipe closer to when he left, right? Maybe I do need some coffee, because I'm confused

I don't know, I was in a meeting yesterday from 2pm to 9:30pm and got a migraine overnight from lack of sleep (while sleeping even, how's that for a contradiction in terms). Back into the hell hole today too, I'm about to go head to head with my new boss. Wish me luck.

I put mine on when I was supposed to have my Cobb. I had it on when we went to Portland for that all rotar meet, then I took it off due to a gasket failing, and put it back on when we installed the suspension back in June.

The exhaust did drone a little when I was driving across the US, but that was to be expected. Over 4000 miles is what my total trip was after visiting family and friends over 6 states. It was awesome though. So many people would flash their lights on the highway at night due to the flames when I'd shift.

BTW does anyone have a spare set of the exhaust shrouds.....mine melted and bubbled..... and turned yellow.......

i just installed my Racing Beat dual resonated. It doesnt seem to make it that much louder but it sounds better than the stock cat-pipe for sure. Not sure what you want out of a mid-pipe but the RB sounds awesome and is not abnoxious unlike like most. I paid $340 shipped and it's totally worth it. Very high quality product and sounds great.

From my research most of the other mid-pipes (resonated or not) are loud and dont improve the sound. The only exception is the BHR pipe which i dont think is available yet and is an extra ~$80 more than the RB.

It was a great deal and it brought a tear to my eye to let it go. I have tried four midpipes to date. I'm currently building an emissions compliant midpipe, and I'm also modifying the cat back exhaust connecting pipe with a bottle style resonator.

Could always get the RE-Amemiya one. It's really quiet and the cat will still work well enough.
