local tunner shops

I am kinda new to the WA area, at least for rx8 tuners... I used to live up here 5 years ago, had a WRX back then. I just moved back to the area, and I have coilovers and exhaust for my car, just waiting to be installed. I am wondering about experiences with places around here, that know about specific set ups for the rx8 and alignment, I don't want some stock setting crap that most tuners do.

Thanks for your input people! Hope all your tuning goes well!

p.s. eastside or seattle tuners prefered... :)

www.kitoautosport.com They mostly specialize in Subaru's and Mitsubishi's but I've seen a lot of other cars in there shop and Kito is a very capable tuner from what I hear.

heres the best idea. dont go local! :D I wish I could say there is some awesome rotary tuner shops that are good with 8's :(

dannobre 12-31-2007 10:59 PM

He was asking for suspension/alignment help....not for a tuner

Speedware does a good job of that type stuff...tuning a rotary would be a different matter :)

Shinka-05 01-01-2008 11:32 AM

yeah, I don't want to FI the engine... You clarified for me dannabre. Maybe I should of put in the post that I lived down in LB, cali... so I know alot of the sick shops down there, but here its basically dead.

......nice, I knew that.

I would hope that these are not the only couple of places, or is tunning in Seattle really this dead?! Maybe people on here just don't tune their cars :/

kristopher_d 01-09-2008 01:41 PM

I'm not entirely happy with my speedware alignment. The cars pulls ever so slightly to the right now, which it didn't do before. Honestly, I think the car probably re-aligned itself perfectly with drop from changing out the springs. Then I paid speedware to undo it. :( My fault though. I really should have driven it more before I decided to get the alignment done.

If your willing to go a little outside Seattle there are more. Intec, Worldone, KAS (The one I mentioned before that is actually in Seattle) Illtech, Axiom, Fastlane 2, Speedline, Speedzone. The first two are located in the Kent and Renton area, KAS in Seattle, and the last five I've listed are in Tacoma.

Your alignment was not OK after the install....the toe changes considerably...even with a 1/2" drop. A car that is aligned with specs that caster/camber is the same on both sides will track straight...and pull slightly to the right on the street due to the crown on the road. If you want a street alignment..they will usually alter the passenger side a bit to keep it running straight on a crowned road

Shinka-05 01-15-2008 12:33 AM

heheh, kinda funny how those damn roads crown...

Ya sorry man. People up here mostly stick to putting exhaust on their Windstars or wings on their Aleros. I actually saw a custom green Integra with some black stripe and chrome hubcaps drive past my house. I think he was looking for one of those rims-to-rent shops.

hahaha, there are some pretty messed up cars out there. If some magazine put out an article of the city with the worst looking and wanna be fast cars... I think Seattle would win! or maybe somewhere in idaho

patrick_andraste 02-03-2008 08:58 PM

http://group2inc.com/ is where I take my Alfa and will be where I take my 8 when I need the suspension redone.

they work on all sorts of exotica there.

patrick_andraste 02-03-2008 09:02 PM

I went to the speedware site and in their project gallery they list a 1963 Coronet.
so I look at the pictures which are all of a 1965 Coronet.

hmmmm.

Hope it is just an ignorant webmaster or webmistress.

When I've visited Speedware in the past they had an audi S4 that they had just installed a new supercharger kit on. Nice looking install.

Nice clean shop as well. Organized with nothing on the ground. Everything was overhead drop down except their workbenches and toolkits.

hry_glb 02-20-2008 04:26 AM

Guys,

Where do you think should I go for just simply regular check up? or maybe transmission work something like that in Seattle area? Are those shops mentioned above good for these kind of stuff? How about the price compared to Mazda dealer?

The old owner of my car took it to some *&$^@*&!(*@& shop which looks like a cars dumpster than a shop and now the clutch is hell squeaking.

thanks!

shaunv74 02-20-2008 04:53 AM

University Mazda is who I trust for problems. I would go to a dealer for problems.

kristopher_d 02-20-2008 12:10 PM

Lee Johnson is good too. It depends on if you're really in Seattle, or just the Seattle Area.

hry_glb 02-20-2008 01:58 PM

I live in Downtown Seattle, 3 blocks away from Pacific Place/Westlake Center. I know that U-Mazda has a great reputation and that's where i've been going. I was just trying to find another alternative, same quality with the lower price maybe..

kristopher_d 02-20-2008 03:49 PM

Dealerships will charge book rate. You're going to have a hard time find price competitive dealer service departments.

Shinka-05 04-17-2008 04:48 PM

who cares about the dealerships... this thread is for suspension, and or tuning :)

Speedware does look clean but I don't think I am going to trust them for tunning a rx8 for suspension. They might be able to install it but I have a feeling I would have to head back there alot to do adjustments, most of the cars there are older than 1975... Thats just the appearance of the place... don't actually know though.

The best place I have seen so far/read about, is KAS...has the most experience with high performance cars, as well as many exotics.

kristopher_d 04-17-2008 06:09 PM

Speedware did my alignment, and I'm happy with it. Granted, I'm not running coil overs. But even if you are running coil-overs, you'll need to re-align and corner weight every time you make a change any how. :dunno: And yes, I know that conflicts with my earlier post. I'd do things a bit different if I had my equipment, but then I'd be able to test between every change, too.

pdxhak 04-17-2008 06:22 PM

If you change the ride height then you should get an alignment. Getting corner balanced is not a must.
