Sept. 26th WA/OR meet & Mt. St. Helens Run Drive

Hey Pacific NWer's,

We've noticed there are not too many G2G's, meeting, or drives and wanted to gauge the interest, and take proposed days and time for a Washington/Oregon (anyone else too :) ) drive to Mt. St. Helens.

I have yet to drive this route, so I'm looking forward to it.

Zoom44, I have been told this is a drive youre familiar with and that the Portland area members take this drive often?

So far Ive been advised that a Sunday would be best.

So pipe up, lets hear who's going to come out.

What date is best?
Where should everyone meet? (city, mall, etc...)

Post if youre interested, what day/time and preferred meeting place and I'll update this post/thread with information!!

Nemesis8 09-16-2004 04:22 PM

Im in once again - let's get this party started! :p I'm out of town Oct 2-6 by the way...

Cam 09-16-2004 04:34 PM

What about 9/26- its a Sunday?

Ive never been to Mt. St. Helens, so Im not the best person to propose a meeting place.

How long does the drive take (St. Helens Run).

What about a noon meet time?

Where to meet?

Let me know everyone's thoughts, and Ill update my original post.

Emsdad 09-16-2004 11:25 PM

I'm in, I work every other weekend. But I have the 26th off. I was thinking about doing an autocross that weekend. So I'll just have to wait and see if this is going to happen.

Cam 09-16-2004 11:33 PM

Emsdad,

I know everyone on this thread is wanting to go.

So lets set it up for the 26th

What time guys (noon?)
Where to meet?

Nemesis8 09-17-2004 10:28 AM

I PM'd Zoom44 down in Portland. He would be a good addition to the drive. Knows allot about the engine lately.

Cam 09-17-2004 11:08 AM

Great, I hope he can attend, as well as any other Oregon/Portland brethren.

If Zoom doesnt post here, but is going to attend, let me know so I can upate the thread.

zoom44 09-17-2004 03:31 PM

id love to go but i have already promised the wife that i would finish the baby's room that weekend. i have driven up to st. helens a time or 2 and i have the maps somewhere that i gave my folks when they were here recently and wanted to drive up. ill dig them out of my pc at home and post up later. the main thing to remember is when you get to the one town(?) it is absolutely the last place to get gas as there is no station "in the park". you have to go up in and back out with whatever gas you get from that stop. it wont be a problem on a full tank for the 8 but you have to fill up. i wouldnt go in on 3/4 of a tank unless i had extra gas in the trunk.

Nemesis8 09-17-2004 03:48 PM

Bummer you cannot make it, but family first!

RX8GUY73 09-18-2004 08:00 PM

To the mountain?

Hello all! I've just moved to Portland, from Seattle area and would love to do this drive with you all. I'll keep looking for more updates as to where, and when we meet on the 26th! Thanks, and look forward to rollin' with more of my fellow 8 fanatics!!!! STEVE

Nemesis8 09-18-2004 08:08 PM

Cam, update the list, we have another!

Great to hear you can make it. More details will be coming soon.

Cam 09-18-2004 08:41 PM

The list is updated.

We currently have 4 definates, and 1 maybe (Emsdad)

We just need to decide what time, and where on the 26th we want to meet?

Ideas guys?

Emsdad 09-19-2004 01:21 AM

Count me in. I'm trying to convince a buddy of mine from work to come out. He and his wife have a winning blue auto.

Also, another buddy from work has a toyota Celica All-trak and is thinking about coming out. I told him we wouldn't discriminate, and we promise to wait for him at the end :).

I plan on being there, unless something unforseen happens (never know with the military).

How about that last gas station that Zoom44 was talking about? Or the Castle Rock IMAX theatre?

RX8GUY73 09-19-2004 02:26 PM

Nemesis8 had a great idea I thought, meeting at that last gas station prior to entering the park. Considering that some of us are coming from Oregon, Washington, and other places.. we need to decide on a location where we converge! I'm excited for next Sunday, and meeting all of you. STEVE

Dark8 09-19-2004 08:01 PM

I can be there also. Which exit and how far is it to the gas station from I-5?

Nemesis8 09-19-2004 09:32 PM

By the way, my name is Kevin - update your list - this is going to be FUN!

ironmedic 09-19-2004 10:33 PM

hey guys count me in as long as EMSDAD goes too! (i work with that clown LOL!)

he told me that he has an interest in going so hopefully its still a go! just let us know the meeting spot!

by the way, i was in the wendy's drive through and the cashier was like "wow is that a tiburon?" and im like "uh???? its an RX8!!" and he was like "oh yeah!" LOL!

I also need to know which exit, or some directions. Does anybody have them?

Ok, We're set to go, all we need now is a meeting time.

Im thinking sometime around 11 am.

Is 11 ok with everybody? Earlier, later?

Emsdad 09-20-2004 10:11 PM

I think 11 is plenty early :)....and Ironmedic, I'm planning on going, but I promise to stop and wait for you once and a while so your automatic can catch up to the six speeds! (Clown...hah!)

P.S. I think that B&B exhaust should be on my car! The typhoon intake too!

See you at work Thursday

Ninja 09-20-2004 11:26 PM

This sounds like fun, I think the wife would enjoy it too. Count us in.

So, the meeting specifics are for:
11AM, last gas station before entering the park? Anything earlier might not be doable since I'm coming down from Monroe and early rise is NOT in my name. :)

Now I just have to figure out to WHERE that is, and how to get there!

Thanks,
-Dennis

Ninja 09-21-2004 12:25 AM

Possibly some info, definitely some questions...

I just went on the web looking for maps of the St Helens region and found a nice one at:

http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/global/ima...f_vicinity.pdf

Just based on looking at the map it looks like we'll be taking I-5 exit 49 at Castle Rock, and the drive is along highway 504 past Silver Lake into Toutle???

Could someone confirm if the above is correct?

Assuming the above is correct:
How do we know which is the LAST GAS STATION BEFORE entering the park? I guess I'd know by the time I hit the park gates, but I'd like to know ahead of time so I can plan on getting there by 11 (without doubling back). Anybody have an idea how many miles off of I-5 this gas station is?

Also, I guess this is a picnic thing or a stop and eat on the way home because I don't remember anything about food service at the Johnston Ridge Observatory. Can anyone recommend some place to eat on the way out?

Anyone plan on getting out and hiking at the top or is this strictly a DRIVE? :)

Thanks,
-Dennis

Cam 09-21-2004 12:51 AM

Thanks Ninja for locating a map, and glad you can join in.

Ive never been to Mt. St. Helens before, so I wouldnt mind stopping at the top for a look around and to stretch my legs.

Can anybody pinpoint the gas station? Is it before Toutle? After?

Ninja 09-21-2004 10:11 AM

Damn, I KNEW I'd regret not getting the NAV!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
