Hope Everyone's Making it Home Okay
I've been couped up in my apartment working the winding road and didn't realize how bad it had gotten out there. I just wanted to say I hope everyone's car makes it home safe and sound.

I'm working at home today in my warm PJ's and intend to do that the rest of the week (of course I do that most of the time anyway ). The only thing I'm worried about is running out of dog food, but I'm sure I can find some short-term alternatives that my dog will like just as well, or probably better
LOL...Today was my daughter's first experience driving in snow. She drives a VW Golf. She barely made it home - she lives on the hill on NE 8th in Bellevue. I was amazed she made it down that hill to the driveway in her complex. She said there were already cars being left on the side of the road and that was at 5pm. She got stuck going into the parking lot, but someone ran over and helped her get over a big hump. She goes "I'm parked horizontally in my parking space, but I'm not moving! I'm shaking so bad right now!!" Now she's worried about her boyfriend making it home.
Uh oh... my lights are flickering...

It's amazing how bad it got in such a short time. It was hailing pretty good at 3:30 when I left work, and by 3:45 when I got home there was still nothing on the road. I just spoke with my Father, and he's been on the road for an hour with at least another hour to go. His commute usually takes 15 minutes. I have a funny feeling I wont be in the office tomorrow.

It was totally fine when I left for work, a little earlier because I had to collect my hugs from Robbie. LOL! Anyway, after I got to his store it turned totally dark outside (at around 2:30 p.m.) and the snow just started coming down like crazy. Ironically, 15 minutes later the sun came out and melted the snow. My mom called the store around that time in a panic that I was driving in snow and wondering if I was still there. Well, on my way to work it was fine, but less than 1 minute (literally) after I parked it started snowing again and has been off and on since then. It doesn't appear that any is actually sticking as of an hour ago when I last looked, but I don't know about up at my house, which is about 1000 feet higher than where I am at currently.
I still have 2-1/2 hours to go before I'm off work. I'm hoping it's fine outside or I'll have to call my mom to come and get me and leave my car at the hospital, which I'm not inclined to do. I prefer to be where I can keep an eye on her, such as my nice new parking spot at the next door neighbor's house where I can see Bella out the kitchen window!

You're sweet little Bella is still on her OEM tires, right? Don't crash her - she'll be safe and sound in the hospital parking lot until the rain comes and washes away the snow.
We want to see you post tomorrow about how everything is fine, not posting in a few days about some horrible crash ordeal.
Be safe.

I was sent to company-paid training up in Kirkland today and let me tell ya, I sure had fun coming home 1.5 hours on a trip that usually takes 15 minutes. I was heading back to my apartment just after 5pm which was when the snow was really coming down and there was already a pretty good layer on the road...omg cars were backed up for miles. About halfway through a minivan with chains pulled up in front of me and was breaking up the snow and ice so I got free traction for a while. But I still had my DSC kick in several times (after a whole year of ownership where it never turned on once). Saved my bacon a few times from sliding sideways and hitting the curb. And yes I still have my potenzas on

I intended to drive at least halfway home last night before having my mom pick me up. Well, the roads turn out to be totally clear with just some snow on the shoulder, so I decided to keep going. About 5 miles from my house that changed. I went up the steep hill and then here was about 2 inches of snow on the road. It wasn't a terrible experience and I didn't slide anywhere or have my DSC kick in on me at any time. It was just quite slow going. I guess I had good timing. I got home, parked, walked the 50 feet or so to the back door of my house, went inside, took off my shoes, then looked out the window and it had started snowing again! My car essentially looks like a white lump with a few patches of blue sticking out here and there.

Telecommuting FTW.
My wife left Everett yesterday at 3:00pm. By 6:00 pm she had made to Bellevue. I-405 was a parking lot the whole way. South of Bellevue was just as bad.
She finally ended up going 520 over to I-5 (wide open) and then south to 405 at Southcenter. She made it home to Maple Valley around 9:30 pm. She was in her Honda Odyssey which had no problems with traction (the RX-8 was safely snuggled in the garage).
She didn't go to work today. I wonder why?

You have no idea how cool this is!!!
F-R-E-A-K-I-N' AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Probably not a big deal to you guys, but I haven't driven in the snow since about 2002 (in my Jeep)!! I made it out of my neighborhood just to see how my tires would do and it was so easy I decided to attempt going to the store for dog food. I made it!! Woohoo!!!
I finally took some pics too, so consider these my "new tint" pics...
Oh yeah.. and one of the Snow King (Emmett)

Well, it was fine coming home last night from work. It totally sucked trying to get to physical therapy today before work. The snow had started to melt, but then the temperature dropped and froze it up by my house. So, we had a frozen sheet of white ice everywhere trees happened to overhang, which was most places, except of course the road past my driveway, so I was totally clueless and didn't have any other way to get to PT and work. Well. I started driving and after I went around the first curve, encountered the sheet of white ice going downhill. So, basically just kinda coasted around the hill. Got to the end of the "back road" I live on out to the main road (1.7 miles later). As I was coasting to a stop (only going 20 to start with) my brakes weren't much help. Just kinda skidded forward and had to hold the wheel tight or I might have ended up in a Christmas tree field. Anyway, the traction control kicked in and it got a little easier. Fortunately, the road has a very slight uphill incline or I may have just slid into the road at 5 mph or less. I was dreading taking off to pull out, but absolutely no problem with tires spinning, slipping or anything. It was rather shocking!!!! Anyway, for the next 4-1/2 miles it was frozen patches of white ice everywhere, so I just kept going around 20 (while some gigantic red truck decided to ride my *** and blow his horn at me several times, all the while skidding around in the ice). I didn't have any problems except for a few minors spots where I could feel a slight slipping (on straight aways) but no traction control kicking in or a need to really try and correct anything. I got to the steep hill, let off the gas altogether, and went down. When I got to the bottom of the hill it was 4 degrees warmer and the roads with very rare ice spots if at all. So, it appears it is fine just about everywhere else but up the hill to my house. I just got off the phone with my mom, asking her if things were better or worse than this afternoon (since she had been out all day). She said it's about the same, so I'm a little apprehensive about going up the hill. I just know I'm going to take the long way around to my house (about 2 extra miles) so I don't have to deal with the very tree lined, hilly, curvy back road that was so terrible this afternoon. The other route is much straighter, more well traveled road, with far less tree coverage. I will only have to be on my crappy tree-lined road for maybe 500 feet tops, and that is all straight and open, with no tree coverage.
Looks like it's going to be a long drive home again.

Kids were doing that in my neighborhood yesterday, clearly with their parent's cars... yikes, I remember doing that just out of high school - totally no fear of crashing at all

Black ice and my OEM tires don't like each other. Still I persist by driving my car on the extreme right lane at 5 miles an hour like an old lady. Haven't missed a day at work yet!
