Did anyone overheat today?

Well it looks like no one is really answering that question in the 100°F thread. I'm just curious if anyone had issues overheating today. I had to stop and let the car cool off and came back to pick up the car later. Coolant came spilling out of the overflow tank.

I heard Jantzen was at Pacific all day? Rolling off the track and stopping in the pits would probably put the cooling system to the test. Were there any issues?

no overheating for me...but today was the first day i noticed the cooling fan running for a while after turning off.

TANKERG 07-30-2009 05:13 AM

I did a bit of driving today with no issues, though I did keep a close eye on the temp gauge. I was even stuck in downtown traffic around the stadiums after the Mariners got out with A/C running on full. I don't think the 8's A/C is the best. The original owner had problems with it blowing hot air, but had it fixed under waranty. I still think it should be blowing a little cooler. I'll try sticking a thermometer in the vent to see how cool it actually gets today.

Sorry to hear about your car though. That sucks. :(

Are their any posts about overheating issues? Try the Southwest forums. Phoenix should be a good place to look.

Good Luck

TANKERG 07-30-2009 05:15 AM

You're under waranty aren't you?

LCheung 07-30-2009 09:57 AM

I think I've noticed that my cooling fan doesn't like to run very long. It should run even if the car is off. Nick has been telling me to leave the engine off with the ignition in the on position to get the fan to run, but it still doesn't. I think he told me to do this at the autocross and it wouldn't run the fans then either. I think something is wrong with my fan temp switch or the setting in the ECU. It is under warranty and I will definitely get them to look at it.

I've noticed my cooling fan doesn't stay on for long after shutting my car off but yesterday after the track I drove about 30 miles and then stopped at a starbucks. I was inside for about 5 mins and when I came out the fans were still on.

No overheating issues on the track. I was suprised how well it coed with the heat.

We have a couple different options for cooling, Oil cooling and a fan control kit as well, you can check it out here:

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

pdxhak 07-30-2009 11:29 AM

No issues with overheating here.

dondo 07-30-2009 12:09 PM

nope i'm good. cept for my ac sucking.

I don't know about having to keep the key in for the fan. My fan has been running a lot after the key is out for the past few days, and it'll run for quite a while. If you haven't heard it bring it in to the dealer.

The leaving it in "on" came from the AutoX grid, but the more I thought about it after we talked last night the less sense it made for his situation. Whenever I turned it all the way off, it seemed to wait 10-20 seconds before turning the fan back on where as if I turned it off then immediately back to on without restarting, the fan stayed on.

Intuitively, it would make sense that if the key is on, the car is willing to run the fans longer because it expects the alternator to be running charging the battery however I have no idea if that actually plays into it.

dondo 07-30-2009 01:21 PM

i think the ap tune keeps the fans on longer too right? or just turns them on earlier?

Anijo 07-30-2009 01:24 PM

I believe it just turns them on earlier.

dondo 07-30-2009 01:26 PM

ok well i went to ms a couple days ago and parked, went into the building, came back out a while later, and my fans were still on... it was crazy hot out though

Anijo 07-30-2009 01:38 PM

My fans were still on full tilt when my housemate got home maybe 10min after I did and confused the crap out of him, he thought the car was running except he saw the dash was dark

I wish our AC worked a tad better. The recent tinting of my windows had done wonders though.

Should only need it for couple more weeks though.

LCheung 07-31-2009 02:36 AM

For those who have poor AC performance, have you had your systems charged at all? I feel like my AC isn't bad at all, until the rest of the cooling system decides to take a shit that is...

dondo 07-31-2009 11:59 AM

i havent charged it yet cause everywhere i call wants like 150 bucks..

i feel like this should be covered under warranty..

Anijo 07-31-2009 12:08 PM

Pretty sure it's considered a consumeable, if what's wrong is it needs to be charged. If there's something else wrong then yah, warranty should cover it.

"Mazdaaaa, my rear tires are bald, can you give me new ones under warranty, pleeeeeeeease?"

I need that warranty right now ;)

The insides of my tires are bald.

Anijo 07-31-2009 12:58 PM

It would be kinda cool if there were such a thing as a subscription tire service... I wonder if the economics would work out. A company where you show up the day before your race and check out r-comps for the day then give em back?

dondo 07-31-2009 01:16 PM

well i called a few places who told me the ac was a closed system and you don't need to recharge it. that when it doesn't work it means you have a leak (which should be covered under warranty)

mazda on the other hand says that it wears out and requires a recharge and is a consumable..

My AC didnt work since the day I bought it. I didnt take it in because its Seattle why do I need AC. Well now the past week its like using a hair dryer in my face. If you bitch enough they will fix it.

05TiGr8Lady 07-31-2009 02:11 PM

8's are not known for good AC. Mine's be wimpy since Day 1.

My fan was running like crazy during all of the hot weather (80+) before I left. I'm in VA and it's storming bad right now. Yesterday was 85 and 60% humidity :sweatdrop

AJ's Shinka 07-31-2009 03:13 PM

It's was 126 degrees here in Vegas a couple of days ago and with my Mazsport cooling mod my car ran like a champ on the highway and I had A/C all the way up to the 4 setting.
