Wait, whats wrong with your CAT? Couldn't you just take it to Mazda and have them do it? There is an 8 year emissions warranty (federally enforced) so you should at least ask if they'll clean or replace it.

That's the problem with CATs -- they can clog. Which is why you want a mid-pipe :)

Do you have your AP installed? I thought the tune got rid of the rich stench...

dondo 07-08-2009 12:46 PM

I wonder if you can just take it in for warranty?

edit: he beat me... sad. he got a plastic bag stuck to it so it's melting and burning and smelling

I guess you missed the start of this. A plastic bag took it upon itself to wrap perfectly around my cat like one of those god damned iphone cases. Now whenever I drive it smells like burning plastic.

ahh, sounds like you need to exercise your 1200-1400 degree exhaust temps. That thing will be gone in no time.

Quit pussy footing around town and drive it like you stole it. Go hold it at 8k in 2nd gear on I-5 for awhile. Do it at night that way you dont get in someones draft and kick your oil coolant light on.

We'll see what I can do tonight.

dondo 07-08-2009 02:29 PM

track day! mine was glowing read and shooting flames, remember?

Anijo 07-08-2009 02:33 PM

lol, that's awesome, I don't remember seeing that but I wasn't there that late.

dondo 07-08-2009 02:36 PM

jantzen told me about it. apparently they wanted to black flag me cause i had blue flames. ;)

JantzenRX-8 07-08-2009 02:47 PM

There was a heated debate (pun) on the radio. Some people were freaking out because they thought there was a problem , other people were like "no, it's a rotary, it does that."

The flames were quite intense. It looked like one of those weed burning torches on low with an occassional puff of orange flames 6" out the tail pipes :)

dondo 07-08-2009 02:48 PM

wish i had pics of that. ;)

maybe you should spend your dollars on camera gear and then just work corners and take sweet pics of all of us while earning track dollars. that can be your new job. hehe

Anyone up for getting covered in ticks and beating up on some older cars this weekend?

There're 2 Chuckanut events this weekend, back to back in Blaine, WA. It's about 90min North of Seattle, $40 for the event (always 6 runs) and $24 for the membership. We've got the drive (with no one taking charge of details yet...) on Saturday but if that falls through, I may do the Saturday event but I could definitely see doing the Sunday event either way.

As much as I've complained about their last event I went to... I kind of want to go again. It's a much less serious and competitive atmosphere, the cars are in general older (and thus our ABS is basically like cheating) and the courses are very, very different from what we get at Bremerton.

Anijo 07-12-2009 08:31 PM

So who's going tomorrow? Weather says partly sunny so it's supposed to dry out.

JantzenRX-8 07-12-2009 11:23 PM

I'll be there :)

dondo 07-14-2009 12:26 AM

good times boys!

Yeah, that was really fun. I like having that much seat time and being able to swap cars and do ride alongs. Very chill day, but tiring .

Anijo 07-14-2009 12:44 AM

Yah man, that was a ton of fun. I got like 38 miles on 7 gallons of gas.

dondo 07-14-2009 12:46 AM

i'll have about 190 on that tank which is not too bad. but i did break a record yesterday and got 20mpg on a tank. ;)

Anijo 07-14-2009 12:55 AM

I was at 50 miles when I got home and just over the halfway mark. Totally worth it though, I wish all autox events were like that. I stopped counting runs...

Also, driving Chris' car was a real experience. I want to start dumping money into my suspension like yesterday...

dondo 07-14-2009 10:30 AM

clear corners first

JantzenRX-8 07-14-2009 11:23 AM

It's true. The clear corners were probably the main difference in what made my car feel better than yours.

Did I mention I put it completely sideways at like 50mph? :evil_laug :lol2:

Fun times though. The plastic bag smell was completely gone by the time I got home too. Steel wool + a lighter got most of it off on Sunday, then getting my car way overheated did the rest :)

Speaking of overheating, holy crap @ that 13b powered go-kart! 1030lbs, NA 13b, and wood dash = pure win... and he's moving it onto a Renesis + LSD off a Miata... hopefully next time we see that thing it'll spin less and put down some good times.
