Forget about the LS# swap, I want to see this V8 swapped in:

http://www.h1v8.com/page/page/1562068.htm

It's basically two Hayabusa engines siamesed together. The bone stock version got 306 rwhp and 191 ft.-lbs. of torque. The stroker version is estimated to get around 400 crank hp.

They don't say anything about fuel economy, but I'm going to assume that it's better than the renesis. It also revs higher, is smaller, and weighs less than a renesis.

^Yeah I remember reading about that. They take two Suzuki 1300cc Hayabusa in-line 4 bangers and make a custom crankcase and crankshaft for them, and mate them together. Of course, the have to rotate one of the cylinder heads so the intake of one bank doesn't hit the exhaust of the other bank, and then rearrange the cam drive so the camshaft gears are on the same side. Pretty sweet.

What do you think about a twin-turbo version? Easily 650-rwhp in an RX-8. That's an engine swap right there

It says "for under 30k$" screw that, i'd just get a 20B

yeah but then you're talking about an engine that probably weighs as much as an LS2, so now we're back at square one

I've no plans on LSX power in my 8 but after have the 7 out at Road Atl a month ago and the 8 out therte last weekend, I have to say that the LSX powered RX7 is an incredible track car with 20 year old suspension technology. Mine is an FC which is perfectly suited to the swap as is certainly the FD. Balance remains flawless and having over 300lb/ft of torque at 2000 rpm is pretty much the shit. Of course it only gets better from there.

I really don't think that the 8 would lend itself to the swap as well as the FC/FD. I really think that the precise feel of the 8 would get washed away with an LS swap. The rear end would absolutely not take the torque but I am sure a Cobra IRS diff would be able to be fitted. It would be unique but having built 6 LSX powered Rx7's I just don't get a warm feeling about doing it to an 8. I do really like the tag line that the V8RX7 forum is leaning towards........Why? Because rotaries blow.

Another thing for some of us to consider is passing those pesky emissions/smog tests every two years or so. I'm putting down over 300rwhp now that I've added the Turbo XS mid-pipe and exhaust. That's alot of power and a blast to drive. However, I run with the check engine light on and, oh, yeah - no catalytic converter. There's no way I can pass any type of emissions test.

Once my engine blows up, I would entertain anything that would give me what I'm now used to (300+rwhp) - as long as its reliable and is able to pass emissions.

dd sends...

Yup, and a totally stock LSX engine in smog legal configuration will make 330hp to the wheels and more torque at 1500 rpm than a turbo rotary at peak rpm. Has anyone actually completed the fitment?

olddragger 09-23-2007 07:18 PM

LS will not fit in the 8 with its stock steering.
The rx7 and LS conversion rocks ---no doubt---but I can still get 3---thats 3 ---- girls in my car!

I know it may be blasphemy here.... no, it IS blasphemy, but does anyone know off hand if the 350Z engine would fit? I imagine there'd probably be the same issues with any non-Renesis swap, just wondering if that option has actually been figured out by someone already.

Until someone successfully completes an emissions legal swap, I'll be watching the forums - and waiting for the Dodge Challenger (convertible). Yeah, I've got some time to kill...!
