Any Interest In A Ford V8 Swap
Hi I am now getting very close to now have the complete ls swap to the rx8 and was wondering if there are enough people out there to work on Making a swap kit for a Ford v8.
Dont you guys need to pass an emission test ?
Depends on the state and/or county in which the vehicle is registered.
I was more talking about ford v8s with obd11.
And you use the fords computer instead of mazda's to pass emissions if your in an area that requires it. I am a licensed Louisiana state inspector for a family owned and operated auto repair shop |
Which Ford V8? 5.0L? 4.6L? Coyote 5.0?
Depends which one. The Coyote is too tall.
Whatever is you perfer. If the coyote is too tall there may just have to have some hood modifications. But idk yet havnt stuck one in.
05-2010 4.6 gt? too tall? Umm might be more of a market if you do a 1jz-2jz swap kit.
thank you. ill check into that
The Ford DOHC V8 motors are probably too big for the swap. The old 5.0 would probably fit, but whats the point?
Swaps that I would be interested in seeing: Nissan RB25/26 BMW S50 or S54 Ford Duratec 2.3 or 2.5 or Mazda MZR 2.3 (n/a) I'm still waiting for a complete kit. Mounting AND electronics. |
Yeah man, a MZR in an RX-8 would be freakin' bad ass. Imagine all those torx.
The Coyote just plain to big everywhere, the FORD V6 is to wide and most likely is to tall. Emissions are state dependent, in North Carolina, depending on the county, they plug into the OBD2 port and check for the correct VIN and any codes thrown. It is very doable.

I had a turbo 2.3L Duratec (MZR with no VCT) Focus. Plenty of "torx". |
Yeah I bet it was a beast.

yeahh forget the ford V8 idea, 4 cams and barely keeping up with a push rod motor. Just perfect the ls kit with wiring and such. and more people are gonna wanna buy it. :icon_tup:
I have been thinking about a V6 to leave more room in the engine bay for accessories and maintain the weight behind the front wheels.
Maybe this - Cadillac confirms 420-hp twin-turbo V6 for 2014 CTS [w/videos] - Autoblog |
The LF3 is a follow on from the LFX which was a follow on from the LLT, all 3 are wide and deep, much more than an Ls V8, even though the V6 is a 60 degree engine.Tthey also have a high pressure fuel pump for the direct injection ,integrated on the rear of the left head, adding another 4 inches to the length,it is doable but with a lot of work, its not like a single cam V6.
Your already putting the best v8 swap in 8's imo
Haters gonna hate, but I would certainly be interested in a 5.0 swapped RX8. It'll make all the power I am looking for and where I'm at it's cheaper and more plentiful.
Yeah if only it (Coyote) fit, which it won't so it s a pipe dream.
Only way I would be interested in a ford engine would be if it was a coyote.
My interest goes Gen III IV SBC, LFX, Coyote, Gen V SBC, 4g63, and then pretty low down on the list Ford 5.0 HO. |
Only upside of the Ford stuff compared to LSx stuff is the sound. Goddamn do they sound good. Otherwise, for this application where size and weight are very much concerns, LSx. Even with AL heads the old 5.0 is a bit heavy.
