Whole slew of problems and some more newbie questions.

Hi all, I own a 2007 RX-8 GT which just hit 96000 km and now I am having a slew of weird problems that I was hoping anyone here can help with.

1.) I'm getting a CEL, P0420 is the error code. About 9 months ago I changed my plugs and about 3 months ago I got a misfire so i went in and changed the coils. The car ran fine but recently this light has come up. I tried the 20 brake stomp but the light came back. I am thinking it's my catalytic converter and I believe I'm still under warranty so I was looking for suggestions on how to take this up with the dealer. I've never done this before so I want to go in with the right facts so they do not screw me.

2.) My engine coolant light is coming on almost on a daily basis now. I've searched the forums and read about faulty sensors but most posts mention the light turning it self off. For mine, the light stays on until i fully press my clutch in and the RPM drop to ~1k. Then the light turns off. If i keep driving it usually comes back. I have no idea where to go about this.

3.) I have an aftermarket air intake >> http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0003_large.jpg << but my province requires a front license plate which sits essentially right in front of the air intake like this >> https://www.rx8club.com/attachments/...r-imag0181.jpg << Could that cause any problems in the future?

4.) Pressing the button on the driver side door to unlock it unlocks just the driver side door. I know pressing it again will unlock all doors, but is there any way to have it unlock all doors on one press?

5.) The odometer has Trip A and Trip B, mine work but they both reset to 0 after they hit 1000km. I've never seen that before, is that normal?

I have an ODBII reader plugged in so if any more information is needed, please let me know and I will do my best to provide. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks as always!

1) Clogged cat, if its under warranty take it in and have a new one put on. its not that hard to drop the cat and look into the pipe to see if the honey combs are clogged or not.
if your warrnty is up look into getting a catless midpipe better for the car but bad for emissions and you will fail inspection and the CEL will be on ( there are ways around it tho, like swapping the midpipe out every year to get it inspected or having a cobb mask the CEL)

2) check your coolant levels first, and if they are good there is a way to make the light stay off, I don't remember right now tho sorry

3) no not really, if you are really worried about it there is a relocation mod for the front plate holder

4) not that I know of

5) never took notice to it before but it could be normal :dunno:

For the coolant light to permanently turn off, the connection is on the left-lower-corner of the bottle, right next to the High Pressure valve for the A/C. Unplug it and slide it back in place but do not snap it to connect them, just enought that the leads do not touch and closes it to prevent dust and water to get inside.

I know the trip odometer counter for mine went close to 3,000 miles without reseting itself. I think for most US cars, it will allow you to cycle up to 10,000 miles before it resets to 0 miles.

1. Just ask the dealer for a cat inspection. My dealer wants an hour's labor ($150) to perform the test. If the cat tests bad, they waive the fee. In the US, we have an 8 year warranty on the cat. If you have problems there, you can buy a used OEM cat at a reasonable price. Most aftermarket cats do not last long on RX-8s, so really do your homework before buying one. Gutting it or going to a catless midpipe are also viable options if you don't mind the smell and the CEL.

2. If your coolant is full, you have a faulty sensor in the bottle. The only way to fix it is to replace the bottle. You can also just unplug it.

3. It's fine. Plenty of air is getting to the filter.

4. I just push mine twice. I don't know of a way to change its behavior, but there could be one.

5. I don't know about that one. I've never paid much attention to mine beyond about 280, which is where I put gas in it.
