15" wheels for RX8

Hello guys.
I have been searching on here and google, and found only 1 thread on my question but no conclusion.
I know some are going to say why and is very simple.
I have a few friends that run spec Miata and I can get their tires free or very cheap as they swap tires for almost every race, I also have 2 sets of RX7 rims in 15.
This is no high end car and used for autox for fun.
Thanks

Won't fit over the front brakes. Some 16" fit but most dont

It's not difficult to try the wheels on the car to find out....

The smallest wheels that will fit over an MT RX-8 is 17", and even then there are some that won't fit. Even the base ATs from 04~05 will require 16" wheels.

So yeah, you gotta downsize the brakes, which won't really be a great thing to do for AutoX.

The car is an 08 and it has 16" on it right now, the car is on way to me, I have a set of wilwood which is very low profile, but I guess I will have to wait.
Maybe with some adapters made?
Thank you guys for your response.

Also I know you can get their R15 tires, but with what profile and width? Miata-sized wheels and tires are way too small for this car. Depends on year of Miata I suppose, but still.

[edit] realized you said SpecMiata, so 205s. That's narrower than stock...

It would probably be cheaper and easier to buy an NA/NB Miata for race duty.

Even if the tires are smaller, wheels or profile or width, the idea is not to use my street tires, this is to only have some fun.
So is there is a way to use 15" rims?
Thanks guys.

Not with the stock caliper. The stock 18" wheels have about an inch of clearance to the caliper, so you could maybe go down to a 16", with a thin enough wheel and perhaps some caliper grinding. I don't see how you could find another half inch there to fit a 15".

You'll need to change rotor size, caliper bracket and calipers to something that will fit.

It will take a ton of very careful measurements and you will reduce your braking ability, probably drastically.

The other option is to just get a set of inexpensive 17x8 wheels and talk to your fellow autocrossers and try to score their take-offs on the cheap.
