I've also got a stailess cat back exhuast on route ill try and load some pics of her later on

Welcome.
Hot start issues are a symptom of bad compression.
You will need to rebuild or replace the engine, it's just a matter of time before it fails completely.
8s can run with failing engines, (mine is also) until they don't.
You can try different band-aid fixes, but it's inevitable.
I suggest you not buy anymore mods for it, unless you have money to burn, and start researching your options for fixing your engine.
If you haven't read the new owner stickies, do it now.

Thks for the reply Yeh I'm going through them now I just want a tempery fix till I can get the money up to buy a second hand engine and rebuild then ill put new clutch fly weal the works then drop that in it. 6 months really I'm a mechanic so I can do the work but never worked on a rotary before but it will be a learning curve don't mind spending money on it I want to keep the car for a good few years realy I the way I see it is once I've done it its done and if I keep it maintains to a high level I will go on and on

BigCajun 04-08-2018 06:54 AM

There are some nuances to rebuilding rotaries that sometimes give DIY guys trouble.
It's more involved than taking it apart and putting it back together.
You're going to spend decent money on a rebuild kit if you do, so be sure you do your researchand are prepared.

If you want band-aid fix, there is the Zoom-Zoom restore kit(I think it's called that) and the ATF in the engine trick. No guarantees they will do anything, though, and even if they do, they won't bring much compression back.

From what I have read here, if you don't know about rotary rebuilds, you will likely fail on your first try, so it's usually recommended to let a pro handle the rebuild.

Another route you can go is pulling the engine out yourself, which you should be able to as you are a mechanic, spend $3000 on a reman at a dealer and put the engine back in yourself.

Yeh i want to give it a go I want to learn about the routerys I could do with geting a Haynes but I cant seem to find one for the rx8 there the bible can you guys recommend a good manule I've seen a lot on hear so I can always look it up but i prefer to have a book. Sit down and. Have a good read. This in advance

How do I load pictures of the old girl cant find a buton lol on a phone mind

I applaud wanting to learn, but first learn about what you're getting into. Rebuilding a rotary isn't like changing a bunch of seals and putting it back together. Big parts (housings) could be worn beyond repair even on an otherwise healthy engine, and they can't be easily bought, and expensive. You won't know till you open the engine. A rebuilder who does this professionally will be able to offer you a complete rebuilt engine with known good parts. It's often the more economical route.

As for a manual, here's the Mazda one: M A Z D A
There is no Haynes or any other manual that I'm aware of.

Thanks for the reply ill have a look at that page later to day. My plan with the rebuild is to get another engine from ebay and dismantle that check all the bits twice maybe three times and then rebuild that put new clutch on it maybe get it ported and then drop it in. Then if there's any problems while doing the build I can sort it out and the car will still be on the road so if i ned to take it some were for machining or to get work done I can take it there

In Mobile mode, there's a little toolbar with a picture icon, press that, then 'device' to load from your gallery, or 'camera' to take a picture, then 'insert', and 'submit'.

If you don't know how old the coils are, plan on changing them too.
While you're under the hood, clean the ESS and MAF sensor.
After you work on it, don't forget to do the 20 brake pedal stomp to reset the NVRAM.

edybear 04-09-2018 11:36 AM

Will do spot on ill post up wen I've done it it wont be till weekend though not got space till then

slidey 04-11-2018 03:48 AM

Do not use cheap ebay coils, gen mazda only or upgrades, join the RX8 owners club uk some traders on there offer deals on mazda coils and upgrades. Plus recommended members to buy parts from. Do not be tempted buy a guy on ebay offering cheap engine rebuilds for around 1k
