What do I do with my RX 8? Should I rebuild it or Chuck it.

I purchased an 2004 AT RX 8 about a month ago with a rebuilt engine with 62 miles on the new motor. 91k on the car. The car sat in the POs garage for 4 years because it would drive for a half hour and stall. The motor was rebuilt by Rotary Resurrection. I've had nothing but problems with it till it blew up on the freeway. The previous owner told me it would build compression and that stalling was part of the break in process until 1000 miles or so. The car stalled on him as well. He was very adamant that I study the break in instructions so I am certain he followed them. I drove it and it would stall when braking or loading the motor in any way when the car was hot. It would not restart for 1-2 hours. Then it would start up and idle great. It had signs of low compression that I chased with the usual parts, ignition, wires plugs, BHR midpipe (bad cat) replaced the air solenoid sensor, fuel pump. My question is what are people's opinions of Rotary Resurrection. I am wondering whether to rebuild it and if I do should I send it back there? The car never had a trip without stalling until the thing blew up in 500 miles. I am willing to put the money in as I am already balls deep into my wallet. That being said I don't want to have $2000 more in it only for the next motor to go bad. I hate to throw this car away but they are nearly worthless without a running motor. I am I foolish to even think about rebuilding this or should I cut my losses and run away? Thanks, Pat

rr has a good rep with rebuilding motors on a budget here. did you get a comp test? if the motor is blown you would probably be better parting it out. the 4 port autos are garbage, nobody wants one and are more expensive to rebuild

I get that it's a reman and you're following a break in procedure. But have you tried just beating the ever living hell out of it? Find an open spot and floor it for 20 minutes. It sat for 4 years. You probably have a stuck seal somewhere. At this point you don't have much to lose.

To answer your question, I wouldn't invest money in a 2004 AT.

Kevin at Rotary Resurection is a standup guy

Thanks for the advice guys.. Kevin at Rotary Resurection emailed me me today. He knew the exact build and what the Previous Owner replaced from 4 years ago! He backs his work and is a great guy. If I rebuild my motor I am definitely sending it to him. Pat
