Water in Engine.
 

I myself don't own an Rx8 but a friend of mine does. He recently told me that he has garaged it for 2 years because he believed a seal head blown and there was water getting into the engine. I said I may be able to help. After some research on this lovely site, I have discovered that there is a generic issue with the Genisis engines, in which they can gather condensation in the engine and give the appearence there is a water leak into the engine. So I have told him this and i think he is a little red face, as he thought he was up for alot of money to replace the engine and hasn't driven it in a long time.


Now my question, as stated the car has been garaged for almost 2 years, not run at all. Do you think this would have any last effect on the engine? I Plan to pressure test the radiator to be 100% sure it isn't leaking but my concern is, if it has been sitting around for 2 years, even with only a small amount of water in there, do you think it would have any lasting effect? I.E Major rusting on any major components?

Likely the irons are rusted if there was a lot of coolant sitting in the combustion chamber

Never hurts to have a look though....or get a reman and send the shortblock in for a core :)

If it is simply condensation in the engine, not actually coolant, do think that would have any issue?

Thinking of running some new oil in there for half hour then dumping it to get any crap out of there.

no need, take the spark plug out, unplug the ESS sensor, crank it and see if anything "squirt out" from the plug holes, does it feel like oil/water? just wipe it with a piece of towel, if u see green stuff, bad, if it's just brown/oil stuff, fine, then replace the coils, plugs, and plug wires, plug the ess sensor plug back in, get a new battery see if it starts.

Try and start it....you might want to squirt a bit of ATF or oil into the plug holes to lube things up a bit
