Sunroof stuck and won't open., please help.
Good Morning everyone,
A little back story, I just purchased my 2004 rx8 a couple weeks ago did some maintenance and now I am enjoying every drive. The sun roof was working fine up until this weekend when while closing the one side got stuck and the sunroof did not shut properly, of course this was while I was driving. I got the sunroof to close when I returned home, but not it will not open. If I press the open but button got the slide or tilt nothing happens, if I press the close button it make a repeating clicking noise from the motor. I tries holding it to see if it would reset, but it seem that the sunroof doesn't recognize that its fully shut and is trying to close its self more. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...8260c8e32b.jpg My new Toy! |
I don't know the solution but I suggest leaving it closed until you find out what the problem is.
You don't want it to get stuck partially open and not seal against the rain. Happened to me on an old Maxima. |

After installing the sunroof unit, perform initial position setting using the following procedure. 1. Press the CLOSE switch to fully close the glass panel. 2. When the glass panel reaches the fully closed position, temporarily release the CLOSE switch and press it again for approx. 13 s continuously. Continue pressing the switch until the glass panel automatically stops at the fully closed position after reaching the mechanical lock position. 3. When the glass panel stops at the fully closed position, temporarily release the CLOSE switch, then press it again within 5 s and hold. Note • Press the CLOSE switch continuously until the glass panel opens to the fully open position, returns to the fully closed position and then stops. 4. Release the CLOSE switch when the glass panel stops at the fully closed position. |
Thanks for the tip Cayman, will have to try it with my sunroof.

Have you tried the factory reset procedure?

Hi RX8_Cowboy,
If you remove your sunroof switch panel in the metal frame there is a hole for a hex drive bolt in the sunroof drive and you can turn and close or open the sunroof. some one correct me if i'm wrong. hope this helps. |
