Step by step seafoam
 

Hey guys, noob here. So I want to do the whole seafoam thing but I want a true blue step by step process. I've done what noobs are supposed to do and read just about every forum on here about it and they are just full of mixed opinions and "oh yea, I forgot to add...". So, first off... to seafom? or not to seafoam?
If yes, then please explain the whole adding 2-cycle oil step, amount? when to add? etc. Or if it's even needed.


Also does seafoam harm any other parts of the car such as the cat, sensors, etc?

Background info on my new baby:
2004
71800 miles
Engine replaced under warranty back at 18,000 miles.
New ignition system, plugs and all.
Car has a slight misfire at idle (one miss about every 8 seconds)
Going through and cleaning MAF and replacing Up o2 sensor this weekend.

Zoom Power cleaner and Seafoam are practically the same thing, so the DIY is valid.

And this is an analysis, before and after, of the results of Seafoam versus plain distilled water. RIWWP used a different method than the DIY thread: with the engine running. This proves to take carbon off much better (but still nothing substantial).

Just a quick update on the misfire. I changed the upstream O2 sensor and cleaned the MAF with CRC and that took care of it! No more misfire.
I also started premixing my gas with Valvoline TCW3 marine, she idles oh so smooth now and runs great.


As for the seafoam, I decided against it after talking to multiple rotary techs across the country. They all said don't do it.

I use Idemetsu, but each to their own. Glad to see the car is running well. Drive it like you stole it and it'll treat you well.

The recommendation from many folks is to premix with a JASO FC or JASO FD grade 2-cycle oil. FC or FD ratings ensure near smokeless burn and low buildup. TCW3 is not - and tends to have much more soot/buildup. I've been using Motul 710 (FD rated) but recently switched to Lucas 2-stroke (FC and FD rated) for cost/availability at ~ 3.5 oz/full tank.

As you can see the Idemitsu rotary oil meets and exceeds JASO FC.
