Hey everyone, so I own a rx8 because they are the best cars ever ! And this winter I was repairing my 8 and I put in a new engine, new battery, new spark plugs..and I drove it for a bit but I needed new 02 sensors (back and front) so I did that and when I went to pick my car up it would not stay idle or neutral ..it would just die but it's driving and it felt better than driving it last year... But the only problem is that it isn't staying idle ... Does anyone know what this is and care to explain it please ? It would be highly appreciated

ensure all the air intake hoses and vaccume pipes are securely conncted.

While you are at it.. Clean the MAF sensor and inspect your air filter in the box.

I did all that stuff and it still won't stay idle :( my mech is giving up ...could it be that I need a new computer or a reprogramming ??

You wouldn't need to flash the pcm because of what you did...I had this happen to me after my most recent engine swap...take the car out and beat the holy hell out of it..this is what my tech told me to do...obviously get it up to warm temp and then go for a drive adn ride the rpms until shift indicator hits...cleaned mine right out and no issues now

Hey panda, I'm gonna try your idea tonight . I just took it out of mazda to look at it the engine is good , my 02 sensors r fine ...they just installed a new MAF they said it could possibly be wiring harness ...but you just drove your car and reved it up on the road ? And would you keep your car alive at every light or stop sign ?

Yes I took mine out on the road and did that. My MAF was replaced along with the engine too so I do believe that should help you out. When you do have to slow down, say coming up to a stop light, make sure you're downshifting and letting the car slow itself down at first too. After a few peaks on the rev limiter..should have no more issues..at least that's my story. BEST OF LUCK!

Another Option..

Start it cold, let is sit until it idles low. It has to re-learn how. You may have to help it when it gets down low, but switching the AC on help (higher rpm, a little load). Once it learns to idle, should be good.

I assume that the ECU was reset by a battery disconnect or 20 brake stomp after the parts were changed. If not, do that, then the cold start to idle thing...

It still hasn't learned to stay idle it still dies... But what is the shift indicator ? I haven't seen that and I got the car to stay idle for about 30- 1 hour and it stayed alive stopping at lights and everything then randomly at one light it died again ...how much do I have to do this you suggest? I'm gonna take it out for a ride tonight ...i take it to a empty lot... And I keep it alive by just softly holding the gas at like 0-1 rpms then it will stay alive on it own...and I drive it then same story on repeat ....

How did the ride go last night? Same issues still occurring?

Wow don't beat the hell out of the car you need to do the 20 brake tap and reset the ECU because it needs to relearn the new data from the new o2s after the reset it can and will stall no worry that's normal just start it back up DONT DRIVE IT LIKE HELL drive it normal for a couple of hundred miles. Check and clean your ESS to befor the reset.
