Sounds like a nice little tune-up you got going. Might as well change the air filter and engine oil and oil filter while you're at it.

The radiator I ordered is supposed to come in today so hopefully I could install it and have it running by tonight. |
Replace the K&N with an OEM filter. The OEM filter filters better without any power change.
https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...rx-8-a-233937/ Intake <snip> The filter isn't even bad. There is FAR more breathable surface area on the OEM air filter than nearly every intake kit out there. The OEM filter is NOT a restriction on the air flow. The K&N drop-in panel was dyno'ed by Speedsource to show a consistent 1HP increase vs OEM. However, the K&N's filtering is substandard, and in Daytona races (Grand-Am ST class), they were losing engines to sand ingestion. (Reference: https://www.rx8club.com/tech-garage-...1/) 1HP is not worth that risk, especially if you are paying for it. Stick with OEM. The only solid reasons to go after market are: - the subjective reason of "I like the sound" - or the improvement in how easy it is to get to any items under the OEM air box. |
I didn't know that about K&N filters. The guy I bought it from didn't give me the OEM air box so ill have to look around the local salvage yards to find one.
Would you happen to know the specifications for the screws that hold the sun visors? I bought a new one because the passengers side visor was broken but the screws aren't there. |
Sorry, I don't know the exact screw specs for the visor.
My post was referring to the panel filter, though it sounds like from your reply that you are referring to an actual intake kit? If so, then you will see a power increase if you put a stock airbox in there. The K&N intake is rather terrible for our cars, more-so than the panel filter. Their filters are better than most OEM filters out there, but the RX-8 isn't in that group. |

heres the intake that is on it. (Note: this isnt a picture of my engine bay)

Yes, go back to stock for more power, a smoother idle, less chance of a CEL, better mileage, etc...

Hmm, you are right though, the BHR radiator isn't listed on the site any more.
I apologize for the interruption, now back to your paid programming. K&N has had recent studies done on their products (I'm in no position to find them atm) that show less filtration than other brands that are cheaper. I used to be dedicated as a former stock car driver/mech, but no longer. To top that off the stock intake is not easily bested at all, easily one of the best ever supplied on a stock car |
He is a one man show currently and he still does a lot of business, so it may have been dropped between the cracks.

I can see that. Ray is pretty good at pulling a product if something falls off the wagon in the manufacturing somewhere, which can indeed happen.

Got the car Up and Running today. Woop! but I got a CEL its p0661. I read that its something about a SSV but I don't know what that is. Would someone mind explaining it to me and what I can do to fix it. I need to get an emissions test but need the CEL off.
Edit: I noticed the air pump is really loud on a cold start-up, so i'm guessing it needs replacing. Could a bad air pump cause the p0661 code to pop-up? |
