So how many threads do I have to spam to post in Classified?
Dear Forum Admin,
Aside from maybe requiring a single post (for bots), this is the dumbest rule in the world. "Please spam my site so you can finally ask the question you want." And let's not count other Classified section posting; brillant. So, how many pages do I need to seagull (fly in and crap all over) before I can finally post a WTB thread? :soapbox: |
You can post anywhere in the forum right now Bawb. But I want to say you need at least a month of membership and 10 posts before you can start threads elsewhere.
|
You can post in the New Member area.....but you also have a waiting period where you have to fly around and read up on all the silly questions you are dying to ask :)
What are you looking for? :) |
And don't make it obvious that you're just trolling for post counts, else they may likely delete those posts and slap you on the pee-pee.
*edit* I just read what you actually wrote in your initial post Bawb...:rofl::rofl: Sometimes blunt honesty is NOT the best policy  |

I tried posting in General Section so it would get moved by a mod. That didn't work either. <mod edit> What the hell?
Levi, me blunt? Never. If they are looking for a reach around they need to look elsewhere. |

Right next to the New Thread button is a big blue link labeled Why can I only create threads here?
Have you read that yet? In it's entirety? You obviously are not prohibited from creating threads and asking questions, since you just did so. You are only prohibited from creating threads anywhere except the New Member subforum (which you just did), and the subforum for your regional classifieds. You are not prohibited from posting to existing threads anywhere else on the subforum, so you can reply to a thread that is on the topic that you need. And spamming the forum WILL NOT Work. Why? Because not only do we see the spamming thanks to Live!, but you need 10 posts AND 30 days. You can spam your way to 1,000 posts if you want, you still have to wait 30 days. We simply ask your participation in the forum before the restriction is lifted. If you don't want to participate, fine, but you won't be able to create threads elsewhere until you do. Still open to replying though. If you have a question that you feel is absolutely unique and doesn't exist...well, that is what the new member forum is for. Periodically we DO actually get unique first-time threads, in which case myself or another member of the staff will move it out of the new member subforum to someplace more appropriate. I did that just this morning to one. Typically though, the new members ask questions that have been asked before, and before this restriction was implemented those questions were all over the forum in random places, drawing the ire of members that were tired of seeing those questions. It was frankly turning a LOT of people away from the forum. We implemented the new member subforum and the people that want to avoid it, do. Membership is up, tensions and hatred are down. Periodically we get someone that can't stand the restriction, but in nearly every case, it turns out to be a member that we aren't interested in having here anyway. Hate this rule? Try out RX7club.com's. |

Levi, me blunt? Never. If they are looking for a reach around they need to look elsewhere. This is the only warning I'm going to give you, because I frankly expect it to be a losing fight to get you to follow our code of conduct. Please surprise me, I'd rather not boot you. |

I had a guess that you were friends. Hopefully you can leverage that friendship to keep him calm on here. I checked his IP, and see that he is military. Perhaps using some of that trained discipline would go a long way. Lots of current and prior military on here, I even served my time on the base he is on.
We have thick skin, but we still have rules and a code of conduct that he must follow if he wants to remain here. I don't get offended easily, but I'll boot people that are trying to be offensive because they think it makes them look cool. |

I dunno. I can't see it as anything other than a request for spamming. Add the stupid little charachter thing if you're worried about Bots. Add some coding if you see 37 posts that are FS and you think it's a retailer/reseller. |
Those are actually ridiculously easy to code around, they don't stop any modern bot :)
It's not just bots though, we want members to participate before they start FS or WTB threads in the general classifieds. You can still buy and sell in the regional classifieds, which is all you really need if you are looking for a donor car, right? Unless you are trying to get a car shipped from elsewhere. Not spamming...participating. |

I get it, i really do. My best friend of 33 years is much the same, but I still take moderator action against him and his posts on here when he can't keep it under control.
Thanks for your help Fend. |

I've worked on classified projects where the IP only gets you within 50 miles. I dunno what this one show. Those are actually ridiculously easy to code around, they don't stop any modern bot :) Perhaps using some of that trained discipline would go a long way. |
The point is to eliminate the redundant new threads on topics that have been meticulously discussed already if the OP would have just searched instead of creating yet another thread to add to the pile.
Albeit it is an inconvenience to new members, but 99% of new members create more of a headache with Mods chasing down their endless spree of new threads to merge into existing ones. In the end seldom do new members actual contribute or even stay in this community longer than 30 days anyways. This method is much better for the overall populi of this community. We dictate to the masses. *Edit* Keep in mind, you signed up for this site. You wanted to be a member, to then ramble on about the restrictions imposed upon you will do very little but irritate the admins. This community didn't reach out to you, don't expect sequential treatment. Otherwise I am afraid your stay will be short lived. |

No need to pander to anyone here, just avoid foul language, targeted insults, personal attacks, and moderator critism in public posts and feel free to be as disagreeable and hardheaded as you want. Trust me, we have quite a few members who take that and run with it. |

I'm not big on babysitting. Even less so about censoring. Combining threads is too much work. Moving threads to the right sections would be about as far as I've gone in forum moderating. Even that is more favor than expected.

Yeah, understood. It's an actual .mil IP, which is the more telling part. One way or another, it showed that you were at least working with the military, even if not an actual member, and the military doesn't often permit gross disrespect. But ...

Not really, it's the same rules I apply to everyone, including myself. Hence why some people just get booted that are too much of a pain in the ass :) |
