Series II oil Cooler / oil temp gauge

1 Attachment(s)
I am looking for a location to pick up oil temp on my 2009 R3. I was going to go the route of the drilled and tapped banjo bolt at the oil cooler inlet.

I was doing some recon on the car and I saw this large nut on the lower part of the cooler - does anyone know it's function? Could one remove it and thread in and adapter for an oil temp sender??

I believe that is the oil cooler thermostat

I'm going though the same thing right now,I know from searching here that there is a service port on the motor for oil temps that will work perfect ,so no drilling and using an open ended bandjo bolt for the oil pressure on the oil cooler line will work also but not sure of the proper name for the product.

Someone will chime in if I'm correct or not

the service port (indicated by "Blind Plug" in the workshop manual) is not a good place to read oil temps as there isn't enough oil flow there. It is primarily used to read oil pressure. It can be found in front of the clutch slave cylinder. You have the right concept, but the opposite implementation lol.

Awesome thanks for the reply (I knew you would)
Blind plug- for oil pressure, but needs extension for pressure sensor
Oil cooler- for oil temps, just needs open ended banjo bolt for sensor

Yup, you will need the pressure sensor if you get one that has the larger (more common) pressure senders. If you get the digital type sender (check prosport), it will fit in there without the need for an extension.

That's great to know, and yes I've been looking at prosport just not sure which product yet.

Evo Series look great, but no peak level setting and no daisy chain (more wiring)
Halo Series has the daisy chain wiring and peak levels but looks ??????
Defi are just to much bloody $$$$$$

paimon.soror 09-03-2013 03:19 PM

yup, exact reason i gave up on Defi. Halo was great, and the daisy chain made things easy. But I love my EVO's :)

How did you mount them, ash tray pod or cups on the dash?
I would like to do a pillar mount, just can't find one because of curtain air bag.

Started with a lotek pod that i cut to fit, then moved to the ash tray pod that i cut out of an oem ash tray:

Complete Install - Page 8

then go to last page for the ash tray pod.

I have the lotek pod I am no longer using if you end up getting gauges and want to try it that way.

Great job on the install and the shift knob is frickin sweet.
I just might take you up on the lotek offer ,I'll let you know when the gauges get ordered.

Prosport Evo gauges (FTW)

Prosport Evo premium 60mm gauges ordered today.
Thanks for the help and your DIY for the install.
