Secondary air injection solenoid(?)

My car has had bad idle issues for a few months now. And with me working 2 jobs I haven't had to much time to do a full diagnostic of the car. I have moderate experience working on cars and a lot more experience working on rx8s. My car would die at idle (every time I put it in neutral) tonight. I got stranded 3 times on a 10 min drive home tonight. I finally said forget going to sleep and started checking a few things when I got it home. Pulled a bunch of vacuum lines of and was doing smoke tests on them. And on one line I blew smoke into and the smoke started rolling out of the secondary air injection solenoid( the blue connector behind the UIM)
anyone got any details on this? Is it supposed to leak air back there?
Heres a video. Hopefully it works.

and before everyone asks... no haven't had a compression check done on the car since I owned this one.. the guy I bought it from had one done to it months before I bought it. It had decent/passable compression on all faces of each rotor.
The coils wires and plugs were replaced 1500 to 2000 miles ago with duralast coils (don't flame me, I'm buying bhr soon) and ngk plugs
the car has 50,000 miles, 2005 6port. I'm a spirited driver, I redline every once in a while. I run premix with 93 premium fuel. Only things I've done to it is gut the cat and clean a bunch of stuff on it like the ess sensor and maf, new ignition like I mentioned.

I assume you aren't getting any pcodes?

Here is the FSM page on the solenoid air flow (scroll to bottom).
SECONDARY AIR INJECTION (AIR) SOLENOID VALVE INSPECTION

When the solenoid is not energized, the vacuum line from the AIR valve should be vented to atmosphere. When it is energized, the vacuum line from the AIR valve should be connected to the vacuum reservoir that it's mounted to.

So, if you were blowing air into the vacuum line that is normally connected to the AIR valve, then seeing smoke there doesn't really tell you anything. If you were blowing smoke through the intake then you definitely have a problem (not least of which is that the check valve that should prevent air from going into the vacuum reservoir is bad).

You'll have to pull the valve to do a proper test. It's possible to do with the UIM on the car but a berjillion times easier if you remove the UIM first.

A 12V battery and a length of tube to blow air through will tell you what you want to know.

If that solenoid is bad, you can replace it with one of these:

I've had that particular one in my car (VDI solenoid) since June 2017 and it's been working perfectly.
